There are still a lot of variables in the Senate races, which is why I see a 46-49 Republican Senate at this point in time. Even in the 1994 landslide (where the GOP held their seats), only two Democratic incumbents were knocked off. For the GOP to take the Senate this year, more incumbents than that have to lose. Fortunately, we do have a precedent: in the 1980 GOP landslide, the GOP kept all its seats and defeated eight Democratic incumbents.

The House and the Senate going to the Republicans is assured. The reason is that the economy is getting so bad that it will pummel the ordinary citizen who by Novemebr will be so mad that they will give majorities to the Repubs. It is ll in the economy.

Good point - and this is why primaries are so important. Yet many people don't vote in primaries.

It's worth noting that simply wins by the GOP are NOT a guarantee of anything good. There is no shortage of GOP politicians who are that in name only. Lindsey Graham comes to mind. Add in Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, John McCain, and others and you get the TRUE picture. And it ain't pretty. While these fine leaders MAY vote conservative WHEN IT DOESN'T MATTER, don't expect them to continue to vote that way if doing so would negatively impact the Democrat Party agenda. Witness the illustrious Senator Graham the other day, voting to refer Ms. Kagan's nomination OUT OF COMMITTEE, when refusing to do so would have kept her from getting confirmed. The stench is overwhelming. This WILL NOT be fixed at the ballot box.
