The Fred Mills File

Fred Mills’ recent switch to the Republican Party prior to his qualifying for the special election for the District 22 Senate seat should leave one to question his true conservative principles. A cursory look at both his past political contributions and voting records show someone who is far from being within the mainstream Republican Party. Do we need another RINO to represent the people of District 22 in Baton Rouge????

Democrats know the trouble they’re going to have getting re/elected so the natural thing to do is switch party and then become a RINO. I don’t trust Fred at all. Anybody that could support Cederic Richmond can’t possibly have any conservative ideas.
You have to give Mills credit, however, because his behavior has been no less reform/conservative that the typical House Republican over the past three years. His score of 71.67 on that index that I use in the Louisiana Legislature Log is right at the mean for all Republicans of 71.96 and only slightly lower than Champagne’s 76.67. So, by the numbers, Mills is no more a RINO than the typical Republican, and not much less conservative/reform than his main opponent. So it’s overblown to argue that he’s not in the “mainstream” of the GOP

Jeff Sadow:
Your own “conservative rating” is not the end all be all to determine if a legislator is for smaller government and reform. Your ratings from last year did NOT factor in the vote on HB 224, nor did it factor in those who supported the Senate irresponsibly adding an extra $2 Billion to the operating budget.
Do you ever comment anywhere without having to link your own work as gospel?
The proof is in the voting records and evidently in the campaign contributions as well. Simome Champagne is the better conservative and promoter of fiscal responsibility in this race, not Fred Mills.
Mills has a better voting record with us (NFIB) then Champagne; 20 percent better! Not sure how you can determine one is more “conservative” than the other without looking at everything.
Just looking at his donations, I think that should show his true colors. Donations to Richmond, in itself, should show that you are judged by the company you keep.
