Tea Party Groups Form Online Petition Demanding Jindal Veto Of Tax Hikes
Louisiana’s governor has made it a point that he will not support any new taxes or rate increases in this legislative session, though fees and tuition rates and so forth have been something of a different story. This petition doesn’t cover those, so it’s a really friendly bit of pressure from the Tea Party groups involved.
The petition specifically says “I Support Governor Jindal to Veto Any Legislation that is a New Tax or Tax Increase.”
As a citizen of the State of Louisiana, I applaud Governor Bobby Jindal’s strong anti-tax stance for the 2011 Legislative Session.
In the remaining days of the 2011 Regular Legislative Session, I call upon Governor Jindal to remain strong and veto all bills that constitute a new tax or tax increase. It is imperative to me that no new or increased taxes are passed by the Louisiana Legislature.

Ok, but I support the renewal of the Cigarette tax, don’t you? That is not a new tax nor a tax increase, right?
Actually, once a tax expires, it is gone. So any additional (or newly added) tax would be a new tax. This is a word game played by politicians. As far as supporting the (renewal) cigarette tax, no. This is a new tax and according to Jindal, it should be vetoed.
If you read the text of this bill you will see our Leges are willing to make this a permanent tax. No longer coming up for vote again. Read lines 5 and 24-25
This tax will become permanent if over-ridden.
