VIDEO: Tim Pawlenty’s ‘Better Deal’ University Of Chicago Speech
This took place yesterday. It didn’t get all that much attention, which is too bad. Because it was outstanding. John Hinderaker at Power Line called it the most important speech of the 2012 campaign cycle, and he’s probably right about that.
Pawlenty is still a little flat compared to, say, Herman Cain – who’s lighting it up on the trail. But on substance, ever since he announced for president there really isn’t anybody better out there than the Minnesota governor.
One wishes that Pawlenty and Cain could be combined. You’d have one hell of a candidate if you could mash them up.
This was an absolutely excellent policy speech. He hit a home run, or at least a double, with every idea expressed in it.

And this is why I have decided to support him. He’s right. A few of you may remember my post favoring Jeb Bush that I put up last February:

I believe that what voters are going to want next year is simply for the pain to stop. Our nominee doesn’t have to be flashy or the most dynamic speaker — he just has to make Americans believe that he can get us back on track.
I still think my comparison to 1920 is accurate. Pawlenty, like Warren Harding, is a Midwesterner who projects himself as an ordinary guy. If he gets the nomination, he’ll win.
If the current trajectory prevails, virtually any Republican candidate who
gets the nomination will beat Obama. His economic chickens are finally
beginning to come home to roost and there is no reason to suggest things
will get better in the next 16 months.
But Pawlenty has done the best job – by far – to date of articulating a
conservatism that is at once pro-growth, cognizant of the proper limits of
federal power and serious about fiscal realities. It’s both frank and
hopeful.
He’s still not exciting. Another six months on the stump might improve that.
But the substance since his campaign officially began is spot on.
3rd time that I’ve listened to it and it gets better each time. I’ll take such substance over pizzazz any day of the week. I must admit that Pawlenty has been very impressive over the last few weeks.
I’m still a committed Herman Cain supporter, but this was nice to hear. Also, this country doesn’t need a dynamic candidate, just one of substance. A Candidate with real ideas will evaporate the wisp of fog that is Barak Obama like the sun on a summer day.
Gee, we’re bombing Yemen – 4 wars at one time and Obummer wants further cuts to the military.
He’s nice, but I wish Pat Buchanan would run. And get out of NAFTA. Perot was right, there WAS “a great sucking sound”…
I like this guy alot and think he has substance and principle. Principle being the most important and substance (acting according to principle) proved out by what he DID as Governor of MN. May I present an interesting and what I believe to be an accurate way to look at candidtaes running for office and particularly for President. James 3:16 says, “For where envy and selfish ambition exist, confusion and every evil thing is there.” Obama is the personification of this but I will stick to the Republican Candidtaes. I saw, and it has become evident “selfish ambition” on Newt Gingrich. That’s the reason there is confusion all around him. He says he is conservative and then says the most ridiculous things that are the opposite of what conservatism is- kinda like Trump. Romney is the same- flip flopping on issues back and forth. If you see confusion, you can take this to the bank - someone is operating from envy or selfish ambition or both. I am sure their is ambition in Tim Pawlenty but I do not, at this time, see selfish ambition. Therefore his speech, answers to questions, etc. are clear and concise- no confusion! As of now,I would vote for him.
