I’ll Be Giving A Speech To The Ascension GOP Roundtable On Thursday
The Ascension GOP Roundtable is sponsored by Ascension Republican Women. They do a monthly deal down in Gonzales, and this month the event will be at lunch on Thursday at at Kamal’s Kafe, 13091 Airline Hwy. in Gonzales.
From 11:30 to 12:00 there will be socializing, and the meeting will get started at noon.
The Ascension Republican Women are asking that everybody bring non-perishable food items, as they’ve got an ongoing community service project for the St. Theresa Food Bank.
I’ll be speaking about the current state of politics, some of which I’ve written about here at the Hayride since the election. I gave something akin to this speech back in December at a function in Baton Rouge, but the short version is that Republicans, since they tend to be upper-middle class folks who do pretty well career-wise and have made something of a success of themselves – or at least come from families which are to some degree successful, operate under the basic assumption that they belong to the Establishment.
And what the election showed was that even though the results were pretty close, and if Romney had just turned out a few more Republicans in key states he could have won, the fact is that your garden-variety nice Republican folks who have assumed they were the inside looking out ever since Ronald Reagan was president aren’t the Establishment anymore. If they ever were.
There’s a new crowd running this country. They run pretty much every cultural institution they want to run (start with the news media, Hollywood and academia, and add things like psychiatry, the fashion industry, law at least where tort law is concerned, literature and a host of others), and they dominate Washington. And they’re in a position now to insure they can vote themselves money from the federal trough at our expense.
So if you’re not the Establishment and you don’t like being on the outside looking in, how do you flip that script? The good news is there are proven methods to do it. Which is what the speech is about.
Cost for the buffet style lunch is $15.00, ice tea, tax and gratuity included. The Roundtable is open to the public and guests are welcome. Reservations are requested.
