BREAKING: Guillory Endorses Cassidy

This represents the end of another rumored Republican opponent to Bill Cassidy for next year’s Senate race. Sen. Elbert Guillory’s name has been thrown around as a candidate for that race ever since he switched to Republican back in May, but now it’s all the more likely that Louisiana’s newest political rock star (with apologies to Vance McAllister) will be throwing his hat in the ring for Lt. Governor in 2015.

As an aside, Louisiana State Police Commander Mike Edmonson is getting mentioned for Lt. Governor as well. Just a nugget of information we picked up over the weekend.

From a press release out of Cassidy’s camp…

U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy. M.D. welcomed the endorsement of Elbert Guillory (R-District 24) for his candidacy for Louisiana’s U.S Senate seat in 2014.

“I’m grateful for Elbert’s support.  He’s a dynamic messenger for our party and a leader in our state.  I look forward to working with him to share our party’s story with Louisiana and the nation – that our ideals of liberty and opportunity create great prosperity for families,” said. Rep. Bill Cassidy, M.D.

“The last six years we’ve seen the country going in the wrong direction as a direct result of the out-of-touch agenda in Washington. I invite you to join me in rolling up your sleeves, getting to work, for Louisiana’s next Senator – Dr. Bill Cassidy,” said State Senator Elbert Guillory (R-Opelousas)

State Senator Elbert Guillory achieved national recognition for his engaging web video explaining exactly why he decided to join the Republican Party.

Cassidy announced his candidacy for Louisiana’s 2014 U.S. Senate seat in April.
