LA Senate Candidates All Donated To Dems At One Point

Landrieu and CassidyFederal election records from Col. Rob Maness, who is running against Rep. Bill Cassidy and Sen. Mary Landrieu for the Louisiana Senate, show that he donated to an Indiana Democrat in 2012 who was running for a congressional seat in the state.

FEC records obtained found that Maness, who is running as the Tea Party, conservative alternative, donated a total of $2,500 to Jonathan George who was seeking the Democratic nomination for Indiana’s 9th Congressional seat.

George was promoted by the liberal blog the Daily Kos and was described as valuing “Honest and thoughtful discourse, not Tea Party-fueled extremism.”

Maness attacked Cassidy months ago for donating to Democrats, citing records that showed Cassidy had donated to a number of LA Democrats such as Landrieu, former Gov. Kathleen Blanco and State Rep. Ben Nevers.

On the other hand, as far as 2010 and 2012 contributions, Cassidy’s records showed that his leadership political action committee, CASS PAC, has donated to nothing but Republicans. And, Cassidy’s PAC actually donated $1,000 to the opponent of George, Republican Todd Young, who is currently representing Indiana’s 9th Congressional District.

Cassidy donated approximately $10,000 to Mitt Romney during his run for the presidency in 2012, as well as $2,400 to former LA Rep. Rodney Alexander. Also, Cassidy threw $4,800 at former LA Rep. Joseph Cao’s re-election campaign in 2010 and $2,500 to former LA Rep. Jeff Landry. Sen. David Vitter was also given some cash by Cassidy, totaling $1,000 in donations.

Landrieu’s long list of Democrat contributions, via her leadership political action committee, JAZZ PAC, include the following:

  • $10,000 to California Senator Barbara Boxer, who in September of 2013 denounced the creation of the Keystone Pipeline on the floor of the Senate.
  • $15,000 to Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse who is a strong advocate for more oil and gas taxes.
  • $12,500 to New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez who sent a letter in March of 2013, signed off by seven fellow democrats, that stated their opposition to any bipartisan effort to expand drilling. And of those eight senators, Landrieu’s JAZZ PAC donated to a total of seven of them, including Florida Senator Bill Nelson, Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin and Maryland Senator Ben Cardin.
