They Actually Got 53 Votes For The Idiotic ‘Dogs In Pickup Trucks’ Bill

Tom Willmott’s bill to ban dogs from riding in pickup truck beds without being in a cage might have been covered in fleas, but it still managed to pass on the House floor.

Just barely.

The vote was 53-34. The 34 legislators who understand the concept of limited government and voted against it were…

Anders
Berthelot
Burford

Dove
Edwards
Fannin

Twenty-four of those are Republicans, 10 are Democrats.

Which means we have a whole bunch of Republicans in this state who think that because they’re in the legislature they have a duty to make rules about absolutely everything human beings might do between Arkansas and the Gulf of Mexico. Including whether your dog can ride in the bed of a pickup truck.

So far as we’re aware, should this bill pass if you pick up a bunch of illegal Mexicans to work a job on your land and they hop in the bed of your truck the state police would only pull you over if they see a dog in there with them. Maybe we’re wrong about that.

Either way, this is one more example of how pathetic this legislature is.

Somebody needs to get Phil or Willie Robertson to publicly take a position on this stupid bill and scare the fecal matter out of the state Senate so they’ll kill it. Either that or Gov. Jindal could veto the stupid thing out of spite for the control freaks with “R’s” next to their names who think it’s a good use of their time letting picayune crap like this pass on the House floor.
