BREAKING: New Orleans City Council Approves Smoking Ban

A smoking ban in public places, led by New Orleans City Councilwoman Latoya Cantrell (D), has been approved unanimously by the New Orleans City Council.

The City Council was set to approve the smoking ban, which bans smoking in most public places, mandating that businesses and bars comply with the ordinance or face hefty fines. Likewise, smoking in public parks and whatnot could also get you a fine.

Already, there are over 100 businesses in the city which have banned smoking inside.

Along with Cantrell, New Orleans City Councilwoman Susan Guidry (D) co-sponsored the ordinance, which is set to end the city’s Laissezfaire regulations on public smoking.

The ordinance puts New Orleans in line with New York City, where smoking in businesses and bars has been illegal for over a decade.
