Mitch Landrieu Is Having A Meeting About Lee Circle And You’re Not Invited

Sorry, but if you want to discuss Confederacy-related monuments in New Orleans being taken down, it’s invitation only.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu of New Orleans has sent out invites for a round of meetings today, meetings that he is not even attending. According to NOLA.com, the invitations were sent out to “church leaders.”

The church leaders are discussing a plan by Landrieu to rid the city of these four Confederacy-related monuments: General Robert E. Lee Monument, known as Lee Circle, the General P.G.T. Beauregard Equestrian Statue, the Jefferson Davis Monument and the Liberty Monument.

A spokesman with the city said residents can attend the meetings, as long as they register online. The news media, though, is not being provided access to the meetings.

A source close to the Hayride said that Landrieu’s administration has not met with any of the city’s top historians to discuss what they might do with the monuments.

Additionally, the cost of removing and replacing the monuments has not been mentioned by the Landrieu administration.
