John Bel Edwards Avoids Hillary Clinton Like The Plague

The Louisiana Democratic Party might be down with Hillary Clinton as the 2016 Democratic front-runner, but gubernatorial candidate Rep. John Bel Edwards (D-Amite) sure is keeping his distance.

Edwards was nowhere to be found today at Clinton’s campaign stop at the Louisiana Leadership Institute, though Louisiana Democratic Party Chairwoman Karen Carter Peterson was there and in full support of Clinton.

When Edwards’ campaign was asked why he was not attending Clinton’s speech today and if he supported Clinton as the Democratic nominee for president, they had this to say:

“With less than five weeks till election day (Oct. 24), Rep. Edwards has a completely booked schedule in order to keep up with his own campaign appearances and fund-raising,” said Mary-Patricia Wray, a spokesman for the Edwards campaign. “He is focused on this year’s election and on Louisiana right now.”

When asked if Edwards would support Hillary or the eventual Democratic nominee, Wray said, “Just like voters across the country, John Bel is vetting all the candidates.

Edwards has tried desperately to appear as a conservative Democratic, often times touting his pro-life stance, his family values and faith in God.
