Just as Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) introduced legislation to put an end to what is known as “sanctuary cities,” which harbor illegal immigrants and refuse to deport them as requested by immigration officials, Senate Democrats shut down the measure.

Vitter’s ‘Stop Sanctuary Policies and Protect Americans Act’ would have stripped federal funds to every sanctuary city in the country, which would include New Orleans and Lafayette Parish in Louisiana.

However, Senate Democrats voted to block the legislation, and the White House has already threatened a veto of the legislation.

“It’s maddening that the Democrats are encouraging sanctuary cities like New Orleans that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement and let dangerous criminal illegals free,” said Vitter in a statement afterwards.

New Orleans has been a sanctuary city, with the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) using four specific rules to protect illegal immigrants in the city, one of which mandates that officers not arrest illegals who are caught driving without a license.

Most recently, the Hayride exposed that Lafayette Parish is now, in fact, a sanctuary city, as parish officials have ignored requests by immigration officials on particular residents who they suspect are illegal immigrants living in the area illegally.

The local media, naturally, has ignored the issue of illegal immigration and sanctuary cities here in the state.
