Mitch Landrieu Defends His Sanctuary City For Illegals While Getting Blasted By Jeff Landry

After an illegal immigrant driver crashed a bus full of illegal immigrant workers into a minor car wreck and killed two Louisiana residents, Attorney General Jeff Landry (R) is slamming New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu (D) for his ‘sanctuary city’ policies that protect illegal immigrants like the bus driver.

During this year’s legislative session, Landry pushed legislation that would have blocked sanctuary city policies in areas like New Orleans, which Landrieu has enacted. The policies prevent police and law enforcement from asking the immigration status of any resident who seems suspicious or gets in trouble with the law.

In a statement earlier this week, Landry said that in the wake of the fatal bus crash caused by an illegal immigrant who ran into problems with the law multiple times, anti-sanctuary city policies were necessary.

“It comes as no surprise that [the illegal immigrant bus driver] was living in metropolitan New Orleans, our State’s only sanctuary city,” Landry said. “Sanctuary policies encourage the further migration of illegals into communities and coast a grave toll in money and safety, as was show in the tragic deaths of St. John Fire Chief Spencer Chauvin and Jermaine Starr on Sunday.”

The driver was actually living in the Metairie, but what Landry did is force Landrieu to defend his sanctuary city policies, in which Landrieu said the following:

“It makes no sense why he would attack our city – the driver of the bus does not live in New Orleans and the company that employs him is not even permitted to operate here,” Landrieu said. “The old adage of never letting a good crisis go to waste is on full display.”

Ironically, the illegal immigrant bus driver and workers were hired by an Arkansas-based company which is co-owned by a St. Tammany Parish official and an Arkansas State Representative.

The Arkansas State rep. is now claiming that he had no idea the workers were illegal immigrants, saying he would not have hired them if he knew.
