Cedric Richmond Considers Pushing For Impeachment Of President Trump

Congressman Cedric Richmond and the rest of the Congressional Black Caucus are considering support for impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump. This comes as leaders of the nation’s historically black universities prepare to meet with President Trump.

From The Advocate:

The Congressional Black Caucus, a formidable bloc of lawmakers with a big say in the fate of President Donald Trump and his legislation, Monday sent him a terse, clear message: We don’t think you understand us at all.

The caucus’ chairman Monday urged cancellation of next month’s highly anticipated meeting between White House officials and leaders of the nation’s historically black colleges. And he plans to have the 49-member caucus meet when Congress returns in two weeks to discuss whether to back Democratic-led efforts to impeach Trump.

Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-La., the caucus chairman, said the president’s remarks after the deadly Aug. 12 protest in Charlottesville show he has no commitment to the schools or the African American community.

Richmond said the caucus was outraged by Trump’s assertion of “blame on both sides” for the violent rally dominated by neo-Nazis and white supremacists.

Richmond and the Black Caucus are considering supporting the impeachment of Trump because they are worried about his fitness to serve. Richmond also claims that Trump has committed “high crimes and misdemeanors” and they should move on that.

The problem is that the investigations into Trump’s various activities with Russia and other matters are still ongoing. There have been no credible allegations of wrong-doing made against Trump. But granted impeachment is not a legal process, it is a political process so you can technically impeach Trump for anything.

This is Cedric Richmond grandstanding for both a national and local audience. Instead of trying to work with President Trump to help his constituents, Richmond is putting his political career first.

Ultimately, this won’t amount to much of anything. Republicans still control both houses of Congress and impeachment is as good as dead.
