Republican Party of Texas Invites Deaf Texans To Get Involved

Republican Party of Texas’ newly elected chair, James Dickey, is making changes to expand outreach to Deaf Texans at leadership meetings. In a recently released video, the chairman announced an American Sign Language interpreter will be on hand at the upcoming State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) meeting. Along with being available for the general meeting in person the interpreter will be part of the live stream on their Facebook or YouTube channel.

Three members of the SREC have close deaf family members who helped to highlight the need for both audio and visual communication.

“One of the first requests I received after becoming State Chairman was to work to arrange for interpreting for the Deaf at our meetings,” Dickey said. “I am excited that this can give more Texans an ability to participate and to see how hard the Republican Party is working to make life better for all.”

Once a quarter the SREC meets to make decisions for the Republican Party of Texas moving forward. They handle various items such as convention planning, speaker selection, fundraising, general election campaign coordination, and working with auxiliaries and coalition partners.

Any Texas Republican is welcome to attend in person and the group is working to increase its audience that watches the live streams or recordings.

At the upcoming SREC meeting, the agenda includes laying out the efforts of #RPTServes, organizing committees, off election cycle county chair appointments, a discussion on voting technology, and an election integrity committee proposal.

The quarterly meeting occurs over two days with committee meetings on Friday and the general session meeting on Saturday. For this meeting though there will be a short special meeting on Friday to approve new committee appointments for SREC members.

On Friday night, the Republican Party of Texas and the SREC will host their Volunteer of the Year Banquet where they will recognize GOP volunteers from each of the 31 Texas Senate Districts. The guest speaker at the banquet is Star Parker.

The upcoming SREC meeting will be held at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in South Austin at 3401 South I-35, Austin, Texas 78741.
