It is beyond appalling to see liberals in both parties decrying the burning of the Muslim Koran by a Florida “pastor” and the backing of efforts to investigate and clamp down on freedom of speech through the Congress.

Harry Reid, resident Democratic slug, appeared on the CBS program Face the Nation and stated that the violent reaction to the March incident was worrisome to U.S. policymakers and military commanders and may require a formal response from Capitol Hill. “I think we’ll take a look at this,” said Reid. “As to whether we need hearings or not, I don’t know.”

The equally repugnant GOP liberal, Lindsay Graham, had the following to say about the same incident in question.

“You know I wish we could find some way to hold people accountable. Free speech is a great idea, but were in a war. During World War II you had limits on what you could say if it would inspire the enemy. So burning a Koran is a terrible thing but it doesnt justify killing someone. Burning a Bible would be a terrible thing but it wouldnt justify murder. But having said that, anytime we can push back here in America against actions like this that put our troops at risk we ought to do it. So I look forward to working with Sen. Kerry and Reid and others to condemn this, condemn violence all over the world based in the name of religion. But General [David] Petraeus understands better than anybody else in America what happens when something like this is done in our country and he was right to condemn it and I think Congress would be right to reinforce what General Petraeus said.

In the words of Garth from Wayne’s World, excuse me while I hurl.

This week the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on a measure to stop the Obama White House’s plan to greatly expand the government’s control over the Internet.

H.J. Res. 37 will stop the largest expansion of government power over the private sector development of broadband since the birth of the Internet.

Tell your Member of Congress to vote YES to stop the FCC’s power grab.

Regulating the Internet under the guise of “Net Neutrality” has been an obsession of the far left for years. The scare tactic has always been that if government does not regulate, phone and cable companies will destroy the Internet.

The members of the private sector are painted as “evil capitalists” who cannot be interested in expanding deployment of broadband to all Americans.

However, the FCC glazes over the fact that the private sector, in the few short years since broadband has been in mainstream use, has provided over 95% of American’s with broadband access on its own.

Despite a ruling by the D.C. Circuit in Comcast Corp. v. F.C.C. striking down the FCC’s effort to regulate broadband, the FCC has chosen nonetheless to carry on in its mission to take over the industry.

This is hardly a surprise and the Americans for Prosperity’s Obama Chart, shows that it has become standard procedure for the Obama administration to ignore federal courts, Congress and the wishes of the American people.

The FCC, though formed as an independent body, is led by President Obama’s close friend Julius Genachowski.

Furthermore, President Obama has stated that he will not take a backseat to anyone on Net Neutrality, and the FCC’s efforts to chip away at the private sector knows no bounds as they continue to use broad language meant to “encourage” deployment as a mandate to take over the industry.

Contact your Congressman today and tell them to vote YES on H.J. Res. 37 to stop Obama’s power grab over our nation’s communication backbone.

“I’ve come to realize that the bigger fight is about the budget, about entitlements,” said Rep. Jeff Landry (R-La.), a freshman member of the Tea Party Caucus. The realization, he said, came a few weeks ago when Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) presented freshmen with a lecture on the budget.

“I can tell you it was an eye opener, learning the fiscal shape we are in,” Landry said.

With the fiscal 2012 budget looming, a debate has broken out between lawmakers like Pence who have urged the GOP to “pick a fight” on the 2011 funding, and others who argue the party needs to move on to next year’s budget, where the potential for much deeper cuts exists.

Hat tip: Bob Morgan

The Senate today passed the compromise legislation to continue the Bush tax credits. Within that legislation were production tax credits for bio-diesel and renewable diesel fuels, credits for steel industry fuel, alternative vehicle fuels, and an extension of the 45 cents per gallon tax credit for ethanol blending in gasoline.

This is not good policy, and conservatives who just booted this Congress to the curb should be outraged, and vocally so. We just elected a conservative House and a less progressive Senate because we’re tired of this kind of governance, yet we’re sitting idly by while the lame ducks continue to push through their agenda! This legislation should be voted down, and then taken up in the new Congress on a straight-up vote on extending, or making permanent, the Bush rates. Our only hope now lies with Nancy Pelosi’s House.

Ethanol is good for only two things –

fraternity parties and corn farmers. It is bad for automobiles, bad for the environment, bad for fuel economy, and bad for the Gulf of Mexico, where runoff from over-fertilized farms in the Midwest results in a dead zone that grows larger with each ethanol incentivized year.

Even Al Gore has admitted that the politics and promotions that supported ethanol utilization as a transportation fuel supplement are lies!

Why are conservatives sitting idly by and letting this happen? Are we so enamored that Obama compromised on the tax deal that we don’t care what it includes? Do we have so little confidence in the Congress we just elected that we’ll accept anything to get the tax credits extended?

It’s been said that “he who laughs last, laughs loudest.” Terminated Representatives and Senators will be laughing all the way to their speaking engagements, book tours, guest spots on Letterman, and ambassadorships if we allow this excrement to go through.

Get mad, again! The fight is not over, and our work is not done. We can’t rest on our laurels to prepare for the 2012 election cycle. The 2010 Congress has not gone home.

…it’s almost hard to imagine how this man walks.

On the floor of the House of Representatives, King blasted the fraud-ridden Pigford II settlements the Obama administration and its allies in Congress have put forth and did his best to fight the $1.15 billion appropriation for them.

King is the first to call the Pigford II giveaway “reparations for slavery,” and he’s sure to get called a racist for his trouble. But King ought to insist on the right to criticize an appropriation for another round of Pigford settlements without being branded so. The Obama administration’s current actions amount to nothing more elegant than shoveling money the government doesn’t have out the door in an effort to reward a political constituency. It’s disgusting, it’s shameful and it’s brazen – and but for the racial nature of the Pigford settlements, it would be a national scandal of astonishing magnitude. King is one of very few leaders with the courage to speak out. More are needed.

Just to recap what Pigford is, Fox News did a segment on the case after it surfaced in the public eye when the Shirley Sherrod fiasco debuted in August…

Again – the Pigford case was settled when there were some 18,000 plaintiffs envisioned to be paid. There are now 92,000 plaintiffs attempting to score payments of $50,000 each, a figure many times larger than the total number of black farmers estimated during the time covered by the Pigford case.

This isn’t payment of a judgement, mind you – that portion of the Pigford cases has already been covered. This is a settlement agreed upon by Democrat politicians at Obama’s Justice Department and Department of Agriculture along with almost exclusively Democrat trial attorneys on the plaintiff side, and it’s being done with taxpayer dollars the government doesn’t have. Over a billion dollars has already been paid out even prior to this latest appropriation.

It’s a fraud. It’s a disgrace. And King is the only one trying to do anything about it. Remember this when he’s demonized as a Klansman or worse after word of his speech gets out.

It’s fairly classic stuff. “This is why the voters threw you out of power!”

Buyer isn’t exactly one of the good guys. He’s leaving Congress amid some ethical issues when this session is over.

The fallout from all of this ethics nonsense has done no favors to the public perception of government corruption. First there was Charlie Rangel who bitched and moaned about his representation up until he was indicted on 11 ethics violations. Then, in a bipolar turn of events, Charlie, like a beaten dog, cried about his service to America in the Korean War, hoping all would be forgiven. Now, he tries desperately to avoid the unthinkable embarrassment of his punishment: a public scolding on the House floor. He is begging to be chastised in writing (reprimand) as opposed to in person (censure).

The real question is…why the hell does it matter?

Neither would kick Rangel out of Congress, dock his pay, take away his right to vote – or in any other way prevent him from being the exact same congressman he is today. In an era when politicians routinely compare their opponents to Hitler, socialists and Dr. Kevorkian, the House still sees its chamber as an island of 19th-century decorum.

It is a place, at least in theory, where an old-fashioned scolding still carries an awful sting.

“Even in this age where politics has become so polarized and nationalized, Congress is still in many ways a small community. Censure really is shaming, just like shaming in any small community,” said Charles Stewart III, a political science professor at MIT. “If you’re somebody like Rangel, who has made a career mastering that place, to be basically stripped naked and scolded, that really is a traumatic thing.”

That’s really fantastic. The irony here is that Rangel wouldn’t even be punished if he didn’t have such a high blown sense of arrogance. It’s a self-absorbtion so magnified by the elitist cronyism of Congress that a former soldier no longer has the honor to accept a punishment in a face to face confrontation. Why are Americans cynical about politics? This. This is why.

Of course, this same situation is about to be repeated on a much larger scale within the next few months. With the revelation that damning new evidence has been uncovered in the Waters (D-CA) ethics trial, the California Democrat has decided to follow in the footsteps on good friend Charlie Rangel and complain about “due process:”

Waters, a South Los Angeles political fixture since the 1970s, said the delay, after nearly a year and a half of investigation, “demonstrates in no uncertain terms the weakness of their case against me,” and she castigated the Ethics Committee for “lack of decency.”

“I want this issue resolved immediately,” she said, “and I want my constituents to know that the person they reelected with 80% of the vote on Nov. 2 is doing exactly what they sent her here to do: fight for them. ”

Actually, what this delay represents is the necessary deliberation of e-mail messages confirming Waters’s conversation with the bank, OneUnited, in which Waters’s husband has a substantial investment. The ethics charges allege that Waters intervened on behalf of the small, minority owned bank to secure preferential treatment in the allocation of TARP funding.

Just like Rangel, Waters thinks she is above investigation. No doubt she would like to resolve this issue as soon as possible, but not because she is innocent and perhaps not even because she wants to stop deliberation on incriminating evidence. The biggest reason Waters wants to resolve this case is that, in January, the Ethics Committee will be run by the GOP. Don’t think for a secong that they’ll bring hesitate to bring down the hammer…

The lack of accountability in these trials is obscene and sad. These people are not above proper behavior. They don’t get a pass because they were elected to go dawdle around in Washington a few months out of the year.

And the ”harsh” penalty for these violations? A public reprimand. The fact that this punishment is actually significant is ludicrous. This ethics nonsense is a sorry state of affairs made all the more deplorable by the immaturity of those involved.

In our prior posting about the House races, we briefly analyzed the 2012 Presidential race through the lens of the electoral behavior of each state during midterm elections. We noted that “….At a minimum, the states which voted for McCain in 2008 are very unlikely to switch to Obama in 2012. States in the interior of the country (particularly those in the Midwest) which voted for Obama in 2008 are very shaky right now for the President. However, the fact that the GOP landslide was barely perceptible in the West Coast suggests that the President can still count on California, Washington, Oregon, and Hawaii, and he has an even shot at keeping Colorado and Nevada in his corner as well. On the Atlantic Coast, Obama can probably count on holding the New England states, except for New Hampshire and (possibly) Maine. He can also count on New York, Delaware, and Maryland, although Pennsylvania and New Jersey are question marks at this point…”

In this posting, we would like to graphically display what we said by showing both the 2008 electoral map and the 2012 projected electoral map.

From the Republicans’ perspective, the “crown jewel” of the 2010 midterm elections was the recapture, by a significant margin, of the U.S. House of Representatives. This house of Congress has been under Democratic control since 2007, and since 1955 has been Democratic controlled for 44 of the last 56 years. Few pundits, however, have bothered to delve into the details of the GOP landslide, which offer interesting clues about what may happen in 2012.

2010/1994 comparisons

The size of the GOP landslide was nothing short of massive – a net gain of 63 seats for the Republicans, which broken down involved the GOP picking up 66 Democratic held seats while losing three of their own seats (Note: a Democratic held seat on Long Island is still undecided at press time, but the Democratic incumbent leads by 235 votes). This is the biggest midterm election gain both overall and for the Republicans since 1938. It was even larger than the 52 seat GOP gain on Election Night 1994.
