Miscellaneous Stuff

There are lots of things going on at present, but rather than pick one and launch into a long diatribe on it, we’ll scattershoot a little…

GOP Missing Enormous Opportunity On Union Political Contributions

Posted on August 31st, 2010 by macaoidh

Doug Ross has a great post today on something Republicans ought to be exploiting in this election cycle, but so far have not taken advantage of. Namely, the staggering amounts of money being poured into Democrat campaigns by unions whose pension funds are flat broke.

The Public/Private Compensation Gap

Posted on August 27th, 2010 by dan juneau

High salaries in some government agencies in Louisiana have been in the news lately as the state prepares to deal with a massive budget shortfall next spring. The whole issue of public sector versus private compensation and employment levels will be on the front burner as government revenues shrink and deficits mount. A recent analysis [...]

More Taxes? No. More Taxpayers!

Posted on August 24th, 2010 by Mark Zelden

As someone who generally gets news and information on line, it becomes rather easy to spot ruling class narratives as they evolve.  When the Financial Times, the Economist, the Washington Post, the New York Times and other elite publications pronounce that “everyone knows” taxes must be raised in Washington, DC to “pay for” the operations [...]

The Anchors On The Recovery

Posted on August 20th, 2010 by dan juneau

August 19 was not a good day for President Obama, the Democrats fighting to keep their majorities in Congress, or workers and businesses in America. Some troubling economic figures came out that day indicating that “Recovery Summer” is not going very well. Unemployment claims shot up unexpectedly to the highest levels since last November. A [...]

How Out Of Touch Is Obumble?

Posted on August 19th, 2010 by macaoidh

In the words of Queen Botox, “Are you serious? Are you serious?” Via Hot Air, we offer this… “But here’s what I can tell you: After 18 months, I have never been more confident that our nation is headed in the right direction.” That was Barack Obama yesterday, when he did his little Ohio dog-and-pony [...]

Greg Sargent’s Laughable Inability To Grasp Rand Paul

Posted on August 17th, 2010 by macaoidh

I guess when the Washington Post hired Greg Sargent to run its Plum Line blog it figured it was serving the consumers of D.C. conventional wisdom and thus keeping the paper relevant. What the powers that be at WaPo might not have recognized was that in doing so they were also providing clarity as to the [...]

Obama’s EEOC: Can’t Discriminate Against Felons

Posted on August 16th, 2010 by macaoidh

You did, in fact, read that correctly. HotAir.com has a story today on an Equal Employment Opportunities Commission directive posted to its website which advises employers that the results of criminal background checks can’t be used to exclude applicants because of the effects such practices may have on “protected groups.”

“This Is Gonna Hurt”

Posted on August 15th, 2010 by Michael Youngblood

Remember “we have to look to Germany, Spain and Japan for successful ways to harness and expand renewable energy sources, grow our economy with green jobs, and reduce our dependency on fossil fuels?”  We paraphrase, but the White House frequently used such language to justify similar programs proposed for the US, while we reported [...]

Passing The Buck: The Ruling Class Cornerstone

Posted on August 10th, 2010 by Mark Zelden

By this point, most people are aware of the egregious salaries of several senior employees of the city of Bell, California.  The Sheriff, the city manager and the deputy (!?) city manager all received more base pay than Pierre Thomas of the New Orleans Saints last year.  While Thomas will likely earn more in the [...]
