Former Bush Administration Officials Leave The GOP After They’re Not Put Back In Charge

Early on Monday, Reuters broke a story that claimed dozens of former George W. Bush staffers were leaving the Republican Party. The angry former Republicans called the Republican Party a “Trump cult.”

“The Republican Party as I knew it no longer exists. I’d call it the cult of Trump,” Jimmy Gurulé, who was Undersecretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence in the Bush administration, told Reuters.

A search of Gurule’s political donations at the FEC’s website makes someone wonder if Gurule ever was a Republican. He only started donating in 2017 and every single donation was to a Democratic candidate or to a left-wing organization. Gurule even donated to the Democratic National Committee. Finally, Gurule was the only Notre Dame law school faculty member to sign a letter opposing Amy Comey Barrett’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court. Gurule hasn’t been a Republican for some time.

Another “Republican” quoted in the article was Kristopher Purcell who claimed 60 to 70 people were leaving the party. Purcell, who now works for Google, hasn’t donated to any Republican or conservative causes since 2012 and his last political donation was a donation to the Texas Democratic Party. Purcell was a co-founder of the group 43 Alumni for Joe Biden.

“If it continues to be the party of Trump, many of us are not going back,” Rosario Marin, a former Treasurer of the U.S. under Bush, told Reuters. “Unless the Senate convicts him, and rids themselves of the Trump cancer, many of us will not be going back to vote for Republican leaders.”

Marin was a member of the Lincoln Project’s Hispanic steering committee. The Lincoln Project wanted to defeat all Republicans on the ballot, not just Donald Trump.

What we have here are various fake Republicans who thought they would be in charge of the party once Trump was defeated. That clearly is not happening so these neocons are going back home to the Democratic Party. These people will play little role in the Republican Party and in American politics going forward.
