This feast once held pride of place in the Church’s calendar, and the entire month of July is traditionally dedicated to honoring the Precious Blood. Unless I’m mistaken, in 1969, the Feast of the Most Precious Blood was removed from the General Roman Calendar.

In the feast, we see both the horror of our sin and the infinite mercy of our Redeemer–His Blood is the price of our salvation, the wellspring of the sacraments, and the weapon that defeats Hell.

“You were not redeemed with corruptible things…but with the Precious Blood of Christ” (1 St Peter 1:18-19).

“Unto the praise of the glory of his grace, in which he hath graced us in his beloved son, in whom we have redemption through his blood…” (St Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians 1:6-7).

These Bible verses from Sts Peter and Paul are especially powerful since today is the Tuesday inside the Octave of their feast day on June 29th.

Let us spend today and this month in reparation, adoration, and deeper love for the Lamb who was slain.
