Announcing The Hayride’s 2018 Truth And Consequences Tour

We’re pleased to announce the 2018 Truth And Consequences Tour, which is the natural progression from the three events The Hayride hosted in 2017 to a full-blown statewide tour this year.

The tour has two basic aims. First, obviously, is a chance for readers of The Hayride to meet with us and each other in a social setting; after eight years of our discussions of Louisiana politics and other subjects we’ve become a family of sorts, and by all means a family should have its reunions. In 2018, the ninth year of The Hayride’s existence, we’re having those reunions in six of the state’s cities – Shreveport, Mandeville, Baton Rouge, Metairie, Lafayette and Alexandria. We look forward to putting faces with names and having fun socializing with all our readers and supporters.

But second, and perhaps more importantly, the six events in the Truth And Consequences Tour will provide us an opportunity to tell the truth to each other about Louisiana and the reality we’ve chosen for ourselves, giving an honest assessment of where we are and most importantly to come to a decision about what kind of place we want this to be in the future. We need to have the discussion about what we want to support going forward before we can have a real discussion of whom we want to vote for.

For too long Louisiana’s politics have been about personality rather than policy or vision, and the leaders that politics has produced have been nothing short of dreadful. It’s little surprise Louisiana ranks so poorly in all of the public policy metrics the news media constantly spits at us. But with the 2019 statewide elections less than two years away, now is the time to decide on an approach we will not only demand but hold those who would lead us to a commitment to pursue.

We’re going to tell the truth, and we’re going to impose consequences. We’re going to do it together.

At our six events we’ll be bringing speakers from every part of the state and even around the country, discussing where we are and where we need to go – from a policy perspective, a political perspective and even a cultural perspective. Who knows? Over the three hours of each of these events we might just solve all the world’s problems.

And if not, at least there will be much food, drink and fellowship.
