Iberia Parish Coroner Dr. James B. Falterman Sr. passed away just after 11 o’clock this morning. He died at New Iberia Hospital.

Falterman served as coroner for the past 18 years. He was one of the few doctors who still made house calls. Dr. Falterman was 75-years old.

He graduated from Jeanerette High School in 1953. Falterman attended undergrad at USL, then went on to LSU Medical School. He began his medical career in family practice back in 1963.

The Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office released this statement: “At this time the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office is mourning the death of Dr. James B. Falterman, Sr., who served as coroner of Iberia Parish for 18 years. The coroner’s office will continue to serve Iberia Parish through the efforts of Deputy Coroners and Coroner Investigators.”

On a personal note, this was one of the finest men that I have ever had the honor of knowing.  Dr. Falterman was more than a physician.  He was a family man and a pillar of his community and he will be sorely missed.  RIP Dr. Falterman.
