Below is a video essay of sorts about Six Flags New Orleans, which closed in advance of Katrina, was hit hard and never reopened. The plan is to tear the park down and sell it for scrap metal in January.

For now, it’s just a great place to shoot creepy footage.

An interesting note: a friend told me back in December of 2005, after the floodwaters had receded in the eastern part of New Orleans, that he’d taken down a six-point buck out there. I asked him where, and he said “Six Flags parking lot.”

That gave off an I Am Legend vibe – or at least it would have, had I Am Legend come out a couple years earlier.
