JUST BEFORE THE STORM HITS: PSC Candidate Forum Still On For Today In BR

Three major candidates for the Louisiana Public Service Commission will bring their campaigns to Baton Rouge Tuesday, Aug. 28 during a Candidates Forum sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of East Baton Rouge.

Former Lt. Gov. Scott Angelle of Breaux Bridge, Lafayette TV broadcaster Ed Roy, and State Rep. Erich Ponti of Baton Rouge have been asked to explain their positions on PSC issues affecting small business and how they will make PSC-regulated businesses more competitive. All are Republicans. They are running in PSC District 2, which includes the Baton Rouge area and roughly one-fifth of the population of the state.

Public Service Commissioner Clyde Holloway, who represents PSC District 5 in Central and Southwest Louisiana will give introductory remarks, explaining the work of the PSC and telling the traits he thinks a commissioner should have. Holloway is not up for reelection this year.

The Chamber of Commerce of East Baton Rouge is composed of small business owners. Meetings are open to business owners, guests, and members of the media. To make reservations, email Bob Breaux at [email protected].

Lunch is $15, which is paid to the restaurant at the door.

According the PSC website, “the Louisiana Public Service Commission is an independent regulatory agency dedicated to serving the public interest by assuring safe, reliable, and reasonably-priced services for public utilities and motor carriers. The LPSC consists of five elected Commissioners who serve overlapping terms of six years and a main office staff, created by Article IV, Section 21 of the 1921 Constitution of the State of Louisiana. It succeeded the Railroad Commission of Louisiana that was created by the 1898 Constitution. The overall goals of the Commission are to ensure a regulatory balance that enables utilities to provide customers with safe, adequate and reliable service, at rates that are just and reasonable, equitable and economically efficient, and that allow utilities an opportunity to earn a fair rate of return on their investment.”

Monthly Membership Meetings are scheduled for the Last Tuesday of each month.
