Glenn Beck’s Obama In Pee Pee

Have you seen this?

I think it’s one of the most brilliant pieces of cultural and political satire in recent years. Particularly once it finally started to sink.

Remember when Andres Serrano but a crucifix in a jar of urine and called it Piss Christ in 1987? Religious people lost it. The Left sprang to Serrano’s defense.

So Beck does the same thing to the Left’s Jesus. Except it’s actually water with food coloring, rather than urine, he’s using as his medium (don’t bother him with trifles).

Does the Left spring to his defense?

Umm, no.

For one thing, the representation of the jar’s contents as urine was enough for e-Bay to yank the piece from its auction site (the asking price was $25,000 and the bids had gone up to $11,000) because they won’t sanction auctions of bodily fluids.

And for another, the Left flat-out lost it over Beck’s antics.

Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs, who used to be a conservative before he changed his spots…

Beck’s work of “performance art for the terminally stupid” is “supposed to be a lame parody of Andres Serrano’s Piss Christ — without the art or the creativity. This is how far the loony Right has devolved, and it’s a pretty nasty sight.”

Jerry Saltz at New York Magazine

Well, as Beck sneers, “Art is in the eye of the beholder.” Yep, and so is pornography, which this thing seems closer to: It’s just as canned, conventional, predictable, and badly produced, and stars a bad actor. As art, Beck’s Obama in Pee Pee looks rinky-dink and silly. More like a party favor or a tchotchke. Boring bad art, plain and simple. Terrible sculpture, regardless of politics. Yet Beck’s goody-two-shoes censuring of the Rubens and Freud nudes has something truly possessed and bizarre about it. A fear of sex this latent but pronounced makes for a fantastically charged visual paradox. Plus, Beck’s brushwork is so flippant and slapdash that it somehow goes well on the reproductions — even adds to them…. Beck is an artist; just not in the way he thinks he is.

The navel-gazers at Salon…

In what might be the product of a mental breakdown for a normal person, conservative loud-mouth Glenn Beck did a very Glenn Beck thing and attempted to auction a Barack Obama doll in a Mason Jar filled with beer (but positioned as urine). Beck, inspired by the outrage over Michael D’Antuono’s painting of a crucified Barack Obama in a Boston art gallery, called “Obama in a Pee-Pee” a work of satire. Beck didn’t dispute that D’Antuono’s painting was offensive–instead, he attempted to make the non-point point that liberal demands of censorship are wrong, and “Art is in the eye of the beholder.”

And of course, Twitter

Of course, Beck is auctioning the piece off for charity. Nobody seems to mention that while they’re slobbering all over themselves in an attempt to trash him for having a go at their lord and savior.

This is hilarious stuff. We need much more of it. Don’t forget Alinsky’s Rules For Radicals…specifically Rule #5…

“Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.

We must ridicule the Left, because the Left is ridiculous. Their deification of Obama is ridiculous.

Jamie Foxx called Obama “our Lord and Savior.” Only a slave needs another human being for a lord and savior. Is Jamie Foxx a slave? Is he not ridiculous?

We’ve spent 25 years being the boring side of American politics. For some of that time that has worked for us, but it clearly doesn’t work anymore. The Left has been the circus clowns, and they’re now running the country.

Now it’s our turn. If it takes dunking dashboard-Jesus Obamas into mason jars of indeterminate liquids to send the lefty intelligentsia into conniptions, it’s a small price to pay for our entertainment and their ridicule.
