On May 17, 2013 I joined 35 other House Republicans in calling on the Justice Department to appoint a Special Counsel to investigate the targeting done by the IRS. We warned that any other investigation done by Attorney General Holder’s Justice Department would have the appearance of a conflict of interest.

We’ve finally heard back from DOJ on our request. Scroll down and you’ll see the letter from House Republicans followed by DOJ’s letter, refusing to appoint a Special Counsel. We are being asked to trust that “The investigation will be handled, fairly, appropriately, and impartially by dedicated career professions.” That’s clearly not enough and Congress will continue to investigate the targeting of conservatives.
