ICYMI: Vitter Continuing Investigations Into Louisiana VA Hospitals

Last week, Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) spoke on the Senate floor to discuss the ongoing investigations into two Veterans Affairs hospitals in New Orleans and Shreveport.

Here’s Vitter’s full dialogue on the Senate floor:

Vitter has been pushing the Inspector General of the VA to investigate the waiting list practices of Overton Brooks Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Shreveport, La. ever since a whistle-blower from Overton Brooks came forward with allegations that VA administrators manipulate data on veterans’ wait times.

The Louisiana conservative met with top officials from the Shreveport facility last week to discuss the matter.

Vitter has also been helping a constituent from New Orleans, La. who lost her father, allegedly in part due to the poor care at the VA health care facility in New Orleans.

In a recent VA audit, it was revealed that the New Orleans VA hospital has an average wait time of 51.85 days for new primary care patients. The VA has refused to provide information to the constituent.
