BREAKING: Dept. of Justice Asks Federal Judge to DERAIL Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Authority of Jail

Not all is well with the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Today, the US Department of Justice asked US District Judge Lance Africk to strip Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman of his full authority over the parish jail, citing that he has not adequately implemented improvements to the prison, according to a report by WDSU’s Jaun Sanchez.

“The sheriff not only has failed or refused to comply with the consent judgment, he has proven to be incapable of taking action necessary to comply,” the motion reported by WDSU said.

The 2013 agreement that Marlin was supposed to be following would have provided better healthcare, sanitation and security inside the prison. However, that has no happened.

Additionally, the WDSU report points out that violence inside the jail continues to be a major problem, with conditions not looking like they’re getting better any time soon.
