The Lafayette RPEC Has A New Official Facebook Page After The Last One Said 9/11 Was An Inside Job

Last week, we brought you the story about a Facebook page claiming to be from the Lafayette Republican Parish Executive Committee that claimed 9/11 was an inside job. Certainly, it’s an insane conspiracy that a parish Republican Party should be entertaining, at least publicly on their Facebook page.

This weekend, a member of the Lafayette RPEC reached out to yours truly to clarify the situation. According to the RPEC, the Facebook page we featured is not their official page anymore. It was an old page that they no longer have control of.

Instead, the RPEC has created a new Facebook page that has gone online in the past week. It only has 20 likes and there isn’t a whole lot of activity on it.

The old Facebook page, the one that claimed 9/11 was an inside job, has been retitled to specify that it belongs to the Lafayette RPEC District 6 member. According to the Secretary of State’s office, that seat is held by Denise Skinner. RPEC districts are exactly the same as parish council districts.

I’m not one for purity tests and I certainly don’t believe any member of party’s parish executive committee has to agree with the party 100% on every issue. But I do draw a line when a PEC member starts dabbling in wild conspiracy theories. The people in Lafayette Parish’s District 6 need to ask themselves if they want to be represented in the Republican Party by someone who dabbles in lunatic conspiracy theories.
