Calcasieu ranked No. 1 among Louisiana parishes for the percentage of its homeowners planning to pull up stakes in the coming months, according to an analysis of mortgage data by ATTOM Data Solutions.
The ATTOM Data second-quarter pre-mover housing index is based on information from loan applications involving single-family homes and condominiums in the state. An index exceeding 100 means the county will likely see a higher rate of home sales within its borders in the third quarter than the national average.
In Calcasieu Parish, whose residents own 60,725 homes, the pre-mover index went from 70 in the second quarter of 2017 to 123 in Q2 of this year, an increase of 76 percent.
Orleans Parish (119) had the second-highest Q2 2018 pre-mover index in Louisiana, followed by Jefferson Parish (111).
The data doesn’t necessarily mean that those planning to relocate are leaving the parish or state, according to ATTOM Data. The counties that were analyzed had at least 10,000 homes and at least 50 pre-mover properties during Q2 2018.
