According to the dictionary, the secular use of the word, amen, is used “to express solemn ratification (as of an expression of faith) or hearty approval (as of an assertion).”
But its biblical roots are found in its Hebrew and Greek usage. The transliteration of the Hebrew amen is em’a.
Using amen as a verb occurs more than 100 times in the Old Testament. It means “to take care, to be faithful, reliable or established, or to believe someone or something.”
It is used to express an idea that something is faithful, reliable, or believable. Used as an exclamation or validation of something, amen is used in 25 solemn instances in the Old Testament, Biblestudytools.com notes.
“Israel said ‘amen’ to join in the praises of God ( 1 Chron 16:36 ; Neh 8:6 ; and at the end of each of the first four books of Psalms, 41:13 ; 72:19 ; 89:52 ; 106:48 ).”
The King James version of the Bible translated amen as “verily” in the beginning of sentences to mean, “I tell you the truth.”
Jesus uses “amen/verily” in all four gospels of the New Testament:
- “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven”.– Matthew 18:3
- “Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter”– Mark 3:28
- “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”– Luke 23:43
- “Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death.”– John 8:51
The Bible also refers to Jesus as Amen in Revelation 3:14: “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation.”
“Knowing that the word ‘amen’ is at its core a confirmation of truth, it is no surprise that the full and perfect confirmation of all that is true, all that is perfect and right, is seen in the person of Jesus himself,” Jason Soroski writes at Crosswalk.com.
“Jesus alone is the way the truth and the life. As such, Jesus alone could preface a sentence with an amen, signifying that what was about to come next was not only the truth, but also signified that he was the authority on that truth.”
Social media censor police targeting Christians and conservatives is ultimately to stamp out anything related to Jesus. Why? Because they hate Jesus who is the truth.
