MARSH MAN MASSON: This Little Island Was LOADED With Speckled Trout!

Don’t overlook the little things. Lane Zimmer and I were reminded of that when we came upon a little, tiny marsh island in a big lake near his Delacroix dock.

Zimmer cut the throttle of his 24-foot bay boat two casts away from the island, allowing the stiff northeasterly wind to push us toward our target. He didn’t want to spook anything that might be feeding there, and it was a wise move. As soon as we got into casting range, we let baits fly.

I was the first to connect on a white shrimp-colored Ghost Minnow under a VersaMaxx Knocker cork, but Zimmer went with a different tactic, throwing a lemon peel-colored Magnum Mullet on a 1/4-ounce Deathgrip XL Jighead.

My fish was a solid keeper, but Zimmer began raking in some BEAUTIFUL trout that, for some reason, were clinging to that little island. It was the perfect way to end an already perfect fall day.
