Editor’s Note: a guest post from Charlie Buckels, a Lafayette resident, longtime conservative activist and treasurer of the Louisiana Republican Party.
There is only one word that describes Senator Fred Mills vote (HB 648) to allow permanent mutilation of young children, grotesque. You can wrap it in any lie disguised a shinny bauble, but it means the same thing, grotesque.
He should be immediately removed as Chairman of Senate Health and Welfare committee. But fat chance of that. Certainly there were true Democrats that voted with Senator Fred Mills but that was expected. That is what the Democrat Party stands for. I would have understood his position if he had changed his party designation prior to that vote. Not too late Senator Fred Mills.
The legislation I’m referring to is HB648 by Representative Gabe Firment. Here is what it does:

Proposed law prohibits healthcare professionals from knowingly committing any of the following acts that attempt to alter a minor’s appearance in an attempt to validate a minor’s perception of his sex if the minor’s perception is inconsistent with his biological sex:
(1) The prescription or administration of gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogues or other synthetic drugs.
(2) The prescription or administration of testosterone, estrogen, or progesterone, in amounts greater than would naturally be produced.
(3) The performance of any sterilizing surgery.
(4) The performance of any surgery that artificially constructs tissue having the appearance of genitalia differing from the minor’s biological sex.
(5) The removal of any healthy or non-diseased body part or tissue.
(6) The performance of any aesthetic surgical procedure.
If you are not a minor child you can have any of these things done to you.
Those elected to office as Republicans should be held accountable for these votes. Unfortunately, actually fortunately, Senator Fred Mills is term-limited from running again as a Senator.
