Steve Scalise Has Endorsed Jeff Landry. Does That End The LAGOV Race?

Louisiana Congressman and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise announced that he will be supporting Jeff Landry in the race for Governor.  The question is, could this endorsement be the tipping point to get Landry above 50% in October?

Scalise said:

“One of the most important elections of our time is just around the corner.  We need a Governor with the courage, vision and proven track record of standing up for our families.  We need someone who will finally get our state moving in the right direction.  I know that Jeff Landry is that leader.  I’m proud to call Jeff Landry a friend.  Shoulder to shoulder we served in Congress and fought for this state and our shared values.  As Attorney General, Jeff Landry took on FEMA, fought back against big government, and protected our jobs and our way of life.  Jeff is a good man who I trust to fix the very real problems we’re all facing.  Problems like crime, education, and skyrocketing insurance costs.  That’s why I am proud to be voting for Jeff Landry.”

The past two cycles have had strong rosters of Republican candidates for governor, all who have fallen to JBE and left our state in an embarrassingly low ranking compared to our southern neighbors.

But this race is turning out to be different. What you’re seeing in this race is both conservative, moderate, and even some Democrat leaders lining up behind Jeff Landry.

Landry has established a rare united front for what is typically an unpredictable race for governor in Louisiana.

As Scalise pointed out—Jeff Landry is a good man who he trusts to fix the very real problems we are all facing.

And with these endorsements rolling in, it’s steadily looking like the Republican with the best chance to win and fundamentally improve our state is Jeff Landry.

Now what is the importance of this endorsement? Steve Scalise is loved not just in his district, but across the state and the country. He won his re-election last year securing 73% of the vote.

Landry already has the endorsements of President Trump, Rep. Mike Johnson, Rep. Clay Higgins, and Senator Bill Cassidy–essentially locking down the hardcore conservative’s lane, the evangelical north Louisiana vote, the Acadiana region, and the moderate Republican vote.

But this Steve Scalise endorsement is a direct punch in the gut to the lane that Waguespack is trying to pander to—as seen through his sorority like fundraisers and events throughout Jefferson Parish.

What Landry needs to finish this off on October 14th are people like suburban moms—especially in Jefferson Parish—who feel comfortable enough to vote for Landry.

Scalise coming in behind Landry is a major boost for the front-runner.  Scalise is the most trusted and loved politician in Jefferson Parish, and this endorsement essentially gives those folks with any doubt a security blanket in the voting booth.

With most recent poll showing Jeff Landry at 40%, Shawn Wilson at 24%, and every other candidate below 10%, there is a real chance that Landry takes the cake on October 14th with Scalise’s backing.
