Is The Post Office Playing Favorites In The Seabaugh-McConathy Race?

We sure hope this isn’t true, but a couple of readers in Northwest Louisiana clued us in to something we found a little scary, and given the current state of American politics and given what we know about the election cycle which comes to a head on October 14, we can’t discount the possibility that the Post Office – or some of its employees – might be attempting to put its thumbs on the scales of the most hotly-contested Louisiana Senate race this year.

Here’s what this is about. Alan Seabaugh’s campaign put out a mailer last week which contained this side-by-side comparison…

We would call this a pretty big deal where it comes to giving voters an honest comparison of the candidates. Seabaugh is a proven conservative who’s fought the good fight in the state legislature and has led on all the important issues, has a record he can run on, and – as this site has noted – actually knows something about the issues they vote on at the Capitol.

Mike McConathy is a retired basketball coach from the directional college in that part of the state. He had some success at times there and people know him from the couple of decades he spent coaching hoops. But he’s a complete cipher as a political candidate. He’s demonstrated absolutely zero command of public policy, he’s struggled to take any position at all on any issue of note, and he’s said he’s a “Republican” who’s supported John Bel Edwards and doesn’t like Donald Trump.

And he’s supported by a mountain of trial lawyer money.

Ten years ago Mike McConathy would have run as a Democrat. We’re pretty sure 10 years ago he actually was one.

Now, they run guys like McConathy with an “R” next to their names, because that’s how you fool the voters into voting for the same old status quo which has Louisiana in last place.

OK, fine. Seabaugh puts out this mailer, which is a counter to the literally hundreds of thousands of dollars being spent attacking him in mail pieces from a pair of trial lawyer-funded PAC’s – one of them, the Napoleon PAC, is run by Trey Ourso, the Democrat consultant whose attacks on David Vitter and Eddie Rispone made John Bel Edwards the governor the last two terms, and…what happened?

Nothing much, it seems. When Seabaugh posted this comparison to his Senate campaign’s Facebook, we saw this…

Uh oh.

We can’t say that there’s something nefarious going on here. But we’ve had people in the district tell us that a mail piece attacking Alan Seabaugh hits their mailbox every day, and yet when he sends one it doesn’t get delivered.

That isn’t good. Hopefully it isn’t an indication of something larger.
