On Friday, I published an article here on The Hayride titled “A New Era In Louisiana Politics Starts This Weekend.” This article came out the day before Louisiana’s Gubernatorial primary election, and the expectation going into last Saturday’s election was that Jeff Landry and Shawn Wilson would head to a run-off election last month. No one candidate appeared able to hit the 50% mark to avoid a run-off. However, Landry was the only candidate with a realistic shot to garner 50% of the vote.

Here is an excerpt from Friday’s article–which ended up having a prophetic tone in retrospect:

In fact, there is a distinct possibility that Landry could gain an outright victory on election day–although a Landry-Wilson runoff appears the more likely scenario. Regardless, what matters is the finally vote tally on election day, whether tomorrow or in November, and barring something unforeseen Landry is going to be Louisiana’s next governor …

Tomorrow offers a fresh start for Louisiana: a Louisiana full of prosperity, faith, and hope. A new day for Louisiana is on the ballot tomorrow, and let’s pray that this new day comes fast for us.

He did it. Jeff Landry overcame the odds and won Saturday’s Gubernatorial primary election outright with roughly 52% of the vote.Local and national media outlets were downright shocked by this outcome, and Landry’s detractors are in full coping mode. In fact, a professor in LSU’s Journalism school resigned due to Landry’s election victory this weekend. Good riddance.

If you thought that Landry’s haters were seething when he got elected this weekend, then just wait until he gets into office. Louisiana Conservatives should enjoy watching the high levels of bellyaching from the likes of journalists, college professors, and community organizers.

But on a serious note, Jeff Landry’s election changed the game in Louisiana. In a sense, Landry’s election marks the end of Democrats’ chances to win a statewide elected office. Don’t believe me? Just compare the abysmal state of Louisiana’s Democrat party to the growing strength of Louisiana’s Republican party. Barring a huge upset in next month’s run-offs, Republicans should hold all statewide offices in Louisiana and maintain sizable majorities in both Legislative houses.

Louisiana has no excuses to remain 50th in the Union anymore. Our state will boast America’s most conservative Governor  and a fairly conservative Legislature. No longer does Louisiana have to remain under the poor leadership of Governor Edwards and his RINO companions like Clay Schexnayder and Page Cortez. Instead, Louisiana will be blessed with actual conservative leaders like–Jeff Landry, Alan Seabaugh, Blake Miguez, and more. We should see the major upgrades in leadership starting with Louisiana’s 2024 Legislative session next year.

Obviously, Jeff Landry has his work cut-out for him. Issues like rampant crime, lagging economic opportunity, and others have plagued this state for years. That being said, Jeff is the man of the hour. He put the interests of Louisiana citizens first throughout his time as Louisiana’s Attorney General. Just look at how he helped end LaToya Cantrell’s draconian COVID-19 lockdowns or when he uncovered the Biden admin’s playbook for social media censorship. Landry earned the trust of Louisiana voters, and he accordingly claimed an outright victory in a competitive Gubernatorial primary.

No run-offs, no uncertainty, just sweet victory.

On a personal note, I can attest to the enthusiasm and hope that Jeff Landry brings to Louisiana politics. As an attendee of the Landry campaign’s election night party, I saw first-hand the palpable excitement and energy that Jeff brought into the room for his victory speech . The crowd roared when Jeff started and ended his Victory speech as the Governor-elect of Louisiana after receiving over a half-million votes.

“Governor Landry” has a nice ring to it. It sounds much better than “Governor Edwards”.

This past weekend, Louisiana entered a new political era . I call this era the “Louisiana First” era – with only a little irony intended, given that Edwards ran in 2015 on a “Louisiana First” slogan – and promptly governed according to national Democrat imperatives like climate change, Obamacare Medicaid expansions and putting Louisiana completely in thrall to the federal government.

Now we have an opportunity to fully define what “Louisiana First” means.

In this era, we can expect to see meaningful victories in socially Conservative Legislation, an emphasis on serving the law-abiding citizens of Louisiana, and an overall revival of this state’s economy. Of course, nothing is set in stone yet. However, we should expect and desire a positive change in direction of Louisiana’s trajectory.

Governor-elect Jeff Landry can and will put Louisiana First as Governor, and I look forward to seeing the blossoming of Louisiana in this new era.
