It sounds like Johnson thinks that Jussie Smollett was telling the truth about getting attacked in Chicago. Or that he’s blaming the “far-right” Greg Abbott (who most Texas conservatives don’t consider to be all that passionate about his supposed far-right positions) for inflicting the migrant crisis on Chicago. Otherwise, you’re quite entitled to wonder what on God’s green earth this moron is talking about.
Chicago hasn’t had a Republican mayor since 1931. You can’t hardly find any Republicans with political power in that city. Who are these right-wing extremists Johnson thinks are framing all the black Democrats for crimes?

So Chicago is now the avatar for the blue city which has ceased to function at a first-world level and is now racing headlong into hellscape status, with bodies piling up every night as its criminal class tightens and tightens its stranglehold on the city. Retail stores close, outmigration intensifies, commerce grinds to a halt and the Left gets more and more unhinged in trying to escape the blame for promoting the dysfunction and evil that grips the city.
It’s no surprise that John Kennedy would bring up Chicago in yet another one of these ridiculous Senate hearings about how it’s access to guns and not the poisonous culture which causes violent crime in big blue cities. He asks Dr. Megan Ranney of the Yale School of Public Health, a physician who somehow thinks her medical background qualifies her to pontificate on gun policy, why she thinks Chicago is the world’s largest outdoor shooting gallery, and the answer he gets isn’t a whole lot more cogent than something Brandon Johnson could give…

Got that? It isn’t important to discuss Chicago’s descent into urban insanity, because the murder rate is higher right now in St. Louis, New Orleans and Jackson.

Ranney responded by pointing out that Kennedy’s home state of Louisiana has a higher firearms death rate than Chicago. Louisiana has a Democratic governor, John Bel Edwards, while Republicans hold control of both chambers of the state legislature.
Experts point to higher levels of inequality and ease of access in purchasing guns in conservative areas as to why they often have high rates of gun violence.
“So I don’t live in Chicago. It’s not my primary area of research,” she said. “I think there’s easy access to firearms combined with environmental conditions, lack of great education. There have actually been studies showing that when you green vacant lots and repair abandoned buildings in urban neighborhoods, you see decreases in gunshots and violence, as well as in stress and depression in the neighborhoods around them.”
According to a study conducted by the Violence Policy Center, Louisiana had a gun rate death of 28.42 in 2022. Chicago had a gun rate death of roughly 25.82 for that same year, according to a Newsweek analysis of the city’s 2022 crime data.
Video of the exchange went viral on social media, being viewed more than 125,000 times on X, formerly Twitter, by early Tuesday afternoon.
“Very important point that often goes ignored. Generally, if you’re in a state with good gun laws, you’re much less likely to get shot. Here are the states where you’re most likely to be shot. Notice anything?” Congressman Maxwell Frost, a Florida Democrat, wrote in response to the video, sharing a map from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“The utter stupidity and racism of many in charge of governing a multi-racial democracy in a complex and changing world is enough to make you weep,” author Michael Tubbs said.
Why is it racism to call Chicago an outdoor shooting gallery? That’s what Chicago is. That St. Louis, New Orleans and Jackson (not to mention Ferguson, Shreveport, Monroe, Baton Rouge and other high-crime jurisdictions also run by Democrats) are also outdoor shooting galleries hardly absolves Chicago and its 359 murders in less than 11 months from scrutiny.
The Left refuses to acknowledge its complicity and responsibility for the misery its policies and cultural aggressions cause. Particularly since Barack Obama came on the scene to convert the Democrat Party into a venue for chaos and tyranny, we’ve seen this never-ending projection and blamecasting. When the communist morons who run Jackson broke the water system there, we were told it was white racism which made it impossible to provide clean running water to people who’d had it for 100 years. When New Orleans degraded into violence and chaos in the aftermath of Katrina, we were told it was white racism which left half that city incapable of conducting an orderly evacuation from a hurricane.
And now we get the troglodyte Brandon Johnson blaming Chicago’s ills on right-wing white Republicans who don’t live in that city, and the erudite Megan Ranney deflecting Chicago’s murders onto Louisiana when asked why those right-wing white Republicans in the surburbs who don’t actually kill anyone should have to surrender their guns for the sake of the Democrats’ urban murder victims.
It’s all bullshit. It’s a vulgar, obnoxious dance of the liars. And they shouldn’t get away with it.
