GURVICH: An Urgently-Needed Transition

Once again, congratulations go out to our victorious candidates and their consultants and staff, to our party organizations and activists, and to the voters who made our victories possible. Jeff Landry’s transition teams are off and running to a great start. The extra thirty-five days which Jeff gained with his historic primary victory have been put to good use! What’s more, our legislature has already held its first organizational meetings to prepare for next year’s hugely important sessions.

So what’s on the LAGOP’s current agenda? Well, supporting our statewide elected officials, legislators, parish and municipal officials, as always. But there’s more, much more: With all the excitement generated by the 2023 election cycle, you may have missed (or forgotten) the fact that Louisiana will be holding its quadrennial presidential preference primary on March 23, 2024.

You know, that’s the Republican primary where Republicans, and only Republicans, can vote for their nominee for President and Vice President of the United States, and it’s only a few short months away. Our choice of presidential nominee is, after the November Presidential Election itself, the most important decision that Republican voters are called upon to make.

So here’s the schedule you need to know: The Presidential Preference Primary will be held on March 23, 2024, but the deadline to register to vote in this primary is February 21, 2024 if you register to vote in person or by mail, and March 2, 2024 if you register to vote on-line.

My hunch is that most of you reading this article are already registered as Republicans, but my point is that YOU (Don’t look at the folks over your shoulder- I mean YOU!) need to help us recruit new members for the Republican Party of Louisiana. We just turned in an absolutely dominant performance in the October 14th primary and the November 18th runoff, and we need to build on our victories to rapidly expand the LAGOP into Louisiana’s largest party.

Yes, the LAGOP and our organizations are going to be heavily involved in recruiting new conservatives into the party, but we need YOUR help.  We can’t be at every dinner table or social event (thankfully), but you and your fellow activists can help us promote conservatism and a return to sanity in our government. Liberal/progressive waste and false ideology have greatly damaged this country in the three years of the Biden administration, and the country may not survive another five years of Democrat rule in Washington.

There are many Democrats and independent voters who are just waiting for a gentle nudge to change their party registration, and a new generation of young voters who need your guidance if they are going to live their lives in a country that is recognizable as the United States of America. Let’s help them join our ranks, and save our country. It’s that simple, and it’s all up to YOU.

When I was first elected as chairman of the party in February of 2018, Republicans trailed Democrats in voter registration by over 402,000. Today, we are only about 142,000 votes away from overtaking the Democrats as the state’s largest party. If you or someone you know might be willing to change their party registration to Republican, please visit  https://voterportal.sos.la.gov/VoterRegistration.

You’ll soon be receiving materials and instructions for recruiting new members to the LAGOP, but you can start right now!

Chairman, Republican Party of Louisiana
