Jeff Landry is set to become Louisiana’s Governor next Monday. Consequently, current Governor John Bel Edwards is set to leave the Governor’s Mansion in an under a week.
As Scott McKay pointed out a few weeks ago here in The Hayride, Governor Edwards has gone a “rehabilitation tour” as of late. The few remaining Left-wing media outlets in Louisiana have recently pushed a narrative of Edwards’s successes over the last eight years.
About a week ago, the Times-Picayune published a lengthy article that attempted to paint Edwards as an accomplished governor. The article points out that Edwards accomplished a great deal in his eight years despite a strong Republican presence in the State Legislature. What are some of those successes? Just ask the Times-Picayune:
” The Dec. 11 event represented a culmination of Edwards’ governing philosophy — that the tax increase he pushed through the Legislature during his first year in office would balance the budget and provide the money needed to improve colleges, universities and K-12 schools; to upgrade roads and bridges and to keep towns and cities safer.
These investments, Edwards pledged, would create more jobs by producing better-educated workers, by making it easier for people and goods to travel throughout the state and by creating pathways to success for troubled youth …”
According to the Edwards shills in the local media, the Governor Edwards’s successes included pushing for scam “Clean energy,” more Louisiana citizens stuck with terrible government health insurance (i.e. Medicaid), and throwing more money at one of the lowest-ranked education systems in America. You would think that Edwards’ media mouthpieces could come up with something better than this underwhelming Resume, but they failed at this task too.
Here is the reality: John Bel Edwards FAILED. His two terms were an absolute disaster, and no can hide that fact at this point.
Under JBE’s “leadership,” Louisiana’s population shrank every year between 2016 and 2023–according to the US Census Bureau. Our state lost roughly 100k people in terms of population under Governor Edward’s 8 years–the size of a full Tiger Stadium on a Fall Saturday night.
In the past year alone, residents left Louisiana at roughly same rate as New York and Illinois and at a much higher rate than even California.
Under JBE’s “leadership,” recent college graduates fled the state at a rapid rate. Thousands of Louisiana college graduates left Louisiana for other states under Edwards’s two terms.
Under JBE’s “leadership,” Louisiana ranked consistently as one of the most crime-ridden states in the nation. Louisiana cities–such as New Orleans, Monroe, and Alexandria–became a safe haven for criminals and thugs with Governor Edwards’ “soft-on-crime” disposition. In fact, Edwards pardoned about 40 convicted murderers in his final months of office.
Under JBE’s “leadership”, Governor Edwards shut down Louisiana schools, businesses, and Churches throughout 2020 and 2021. Our state still suffers the economic effects of Edwards’ unconstitutional actions from that time period.

John Bel Edwards’s record is indefensible. However, Edwards and his sycophants defiantly obfuscate the truth his failed Gubernatorial administration.
Here is a recent mask-off exchange from Edwards in the Times-Picayune‘s recent article:
“On the flight to Shreveport earlier this month, Edwards said he would have run for reelection if the state constitution permitted him to seek a third term.
‘If you could and you don’t, it’s akin to quitting,’ he said over the thrum of the small plane’s motor. ‘I’ve never quit anything in my life.’
And if he had run against Landry?
‘I would have beaten him,’ he said flatly.”
Give me a break. This JBE “Farewell Tour” is getting out-of-hand, and someone needs to push back against this cocky, failed Governor.
John Bel Edwards can lie to the people of Louisiana, but the numbers never lie. The people of Louisiana spoke on October 14th, and they overwhelmingly rejected JBE’s agenda and his acolyte Shawn Wilson by a resounding margin last fall.
John Bel Edwards has just one more week to enjoy the remaining embers of his failed reign. He better enjoy his last few moments as Governor before Jeff Landry takes charge and undoes Edwards’s failed leadership.
Good riddance. You won’t be missed, John Bel Edwards. Louisiana will be better off without you.
So long, goodbye, and enjoy the retirement home, John Bel!
