KOENIG: Why Won’t the LAGOP Publicize the LA Republican Caucus?

Next Tuesday (March 19th), Louisiana Republican voters will have the opportunity to select their delegates for this summer’s Republican National Convention (RNC). Registered Republicans in each of Louisiana’s six Congressional districts will meet at 16 different Caucus locations to select three primary delegates and three alternate delegates to represent their respective district at the RNC. In total, voters in the Louisiana Republican Caucus will select 18 primary delegates and 18 alternate delegates. Shortly after, a State Convention will select Louisiana’s remaining RNC 29 primary delegates and 26 alternate delegates on April 6th.Despite only one week remaining until the Louisiana Republican Caucus, you would think that our state’s Republican party would publicize this important event. Well, you would be wrong. The LAGOP has posted little information about this Caucus, so virtually none of Louisiana’s Republican base even knows about this process of selecting RNC Delegates.

As of this writing (Tuesday, March 11th), the LAGOP has sent only a few emails about the Louisiana Republican Caucus. There is no informational webpage nor any social media posts about the Caucus. So unless you are a subscriber on the LAGOP’s email list, then you would have no clue about next week’s Republican Caucus. Our state is selecting its representatives next week for the Republican presidential nomination at the RNC. However, no one at the LAGOP must think it’s important to present readily available information to the public.

Currently, the LAGOP’s website shows only the link to register for the Louisiana Republican Caucus. You won’t find any information about the time of the Caucus or even any of the Caucus locations.

This lack of information is inexcusable and exhibits the LAGOP’s ineffectiveness in the online media sphere.

Just try to search “Louisiana RNC Delegate” on your web browser. You won’t be able to find any information online about the Louisiana Republican Caucus through a Google search. The top search results are related to Louisiana’s RNC delegates from 2008, 2016, and 2020. Absolutely nothing about 2024.

Now, let’s compare the LAGOP to the Florida GOP or the Tennessee GOP. Both the Florida GOP and the Tennessee GOP have readily accessible information about their RNC delegate selection process. There’s no reason we can’t have a single webpage about the selection of RNC delegates in Louisiana.

At this point, you may wonder why the LAGOP won’t publicize the Caucus on social media or on its website. I don’t have an answer myself, so I cannot speak for the state party. But, what I can say is that Louisiana politics has a glaring “open secret.” Louisiana politics is an insider’s game. Louisiana Republican politics is not oriented toward grassroots Conservatives, young people, or the average Republican voter in Louisiana. Instead, our state’s political game is an arcane affair where only the selected few get to make the decisions for everyone else.

I for one do not believe that only elected officials and Establishment insiders should represent our state at the RNC. Just look at Louisiana’s 2016 and 2020 Delegate Lists, and you will find a list full of politicians and party insiders.

I am personally tired of the “insider nature” of Louisiana politics, and that’s why I–Nathan Koenig–have decided to run as an RNC Delegate in Congressional District 1 (Metairie). If you want to learn more about my run as an RNC Delegate, then check out my Substack post on the Louisiana First Standard.

Louisiana needs more young “Louisiana First” conservatives involved in our state’s political process, and relegating young conservatives to antiquated organizations like Young Republicans and College Republicans won’t cut it anymore.

Just remember how many young conservatives have left our state in the past decade. Do we really want to keep the same Republican party insiders running our state after years of failed opposition to former Governor John Bel Edwards? Make sure to keep that question in mind during the Louisiana Republican Caucus and this month’s RSCC and RPEC elections.

In closing, make sure to attend the Louisiana Republican Caucus on Tuesday, March 19th from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm. I listed the Caucus locations below since this information is not readily accessible:
