Lately, I’ve spent a fair amount of time criticizing the LAGOP for its lack of transparency and limited voter outreach. While I believe that my critiques of the LAGOP are still valid, the LAGOP is not the most dysfunctional political party in the state of Louisiana.
Not by a long shot.
The prize for the most dysfunctional political party in Louisiana of course goes to the Louisiana Democrat party.
Last Saturday, the Democrat State Central Committee (DSCC) attempted to regroup after taking an absolute clobbering in last fall’s statewide and legislative elections. Former LA Democrat party chair Katie Bernhardt became the scapegoat after the party’s abysmal election results, and progressive Democrat activists and voters openly called for her resignation.
Although Bernhardt did not willingly step down as LADEMO chair, progressive Democrats still took it upon themselves to replace her. A group of one hundred-plus Far-Left activists ran as a slate of DSCC candidates organized under the “Blue Reboot” moniker in last month’s DSCC elections. This slate of candidates took over roughly a third of the DSCC and played a pivotal role in changing the make-up of the LADEMO leadership.
Thank you! Blue Reboot-backed candidates won a majority of their races and helped secure a total of 60 seats on the DSCC — roughly a third of the committee — in last Saturday’s election. ⬇️ [THREAD] pic.twitter.com/9VPRJgIq6l

Going into last Saturday’s DSCC meeting, one of the top contenders to replace Bernhardt was former State Rep. Randal Gaines. Gaines announced last December that he intended to run for the top post of the Louisiana Democrat party, and his announcement shed light on his mission as the potential LADEMO chair:
“According to a release, Randal L. Gaines is running to replace the current Chair, Katie Bernhardt. She has held the position since 2020. Gaines plans to ‘reunite the party in the face of an extremist Republican-run executive and legislative branch, and put Democrats back on the map.'”
What Gaines failed to mention is that roughly 60% of the state would fall under his definition of “extremism” just for voting for a Republican candidate last fall, but I digress.
At last Saturday’s DSCC meeting, the Democrat party’s dysfunction was on full display. Going into the meeting, “soft-on-crime” US Congressman Troy Carter and other Establishment Democrats attempted to whip last-minute votes for Katie Bernhardt as LADEMO chair. However, the crypto-communist and Public Service Commissioner Davante Lewis nominated former State Rep. Randal Gaines during the meeting. What followed next was a chaotic clown show.
The left-wing media outlet Louisiana Illuminator illustrated the absolute anarchy coming from the LADEMO chair election:
After Bernhardt failed to get a nomination from the floor, as is required by the bylaws, she took the microphone to pitch her candidacy anyway, which was met with outrage from members who wanted her replaced.
The packed Union Hall fell into chaos. Executive committee members initially claimed Bernhardt had been nominated but could not name who had done so when pressed by members.
Lafayette DSCC member Jackson Voss asked the nominator to identify themselves. No one did so, and a motion to close nominations had already passed without objection.
After further shouting, State Rep. Kyle Green, D-Marrero, took the mic.
“I’m embarrassed by what’s happening here,” Green said before calling for nominations to be reopened.
His motion failed, 98-61.
Lewis disagreed with Green’s assessment. Passionate discourse is not embarrassing, he said, but what happens when a diverse group of people come together.
“Democracy is messy,” Lewis said in an interview. “While this is not what I think any of us wanted to do, how we wanted to conduct this meeting, we had to do it in a fair and just way, and I think that’s what prevailed.'”
“Democracy is messy.” Another deep insight from one of Louisiana’s most embarrassing elected officials in Davante Lewis.

No wonder Louisiana voters rejected this “clown show” known as the Louisiana Democrat party last Fall. The DSCC couldn’t figure out how to properly nominate and elect a candidate as party chair. We might need to start a Go-Fund-Me campaign for the DSCC and buy them copies of Robert’s Rules of Order. Reading that book might do them well.
The Louisiana Democrat party has been a mess for the past four years. They are losing statewide elections left and right and hold less than a third of the entire state Legislature. The LADEMO chair election is just another example of this continued collapse.
As I alluded to earlier, of course, while it may be fun to point and laugh at the demise of the Louisiana Democrat party, “Louisiana First” patriots have our own mess to deal with in the Louisiana Republican party. We still have plenty of establishment, RINO politicians within our own camp. So, let’s use the events in the LADEMO chair election as a catalyst to fix the Louisiana Republican party.
LA Democrats are out of the picture in the grand scheme of Louisiana politics. So, the future success of the Louisiana depends on a functional LAGOP. But for now, we can still have a good laugh at the clown show.
Send in the Clowns.
