GREENE: Headlines Change, But Biden Administration Continues To Fail Consumers

Editor’s Note: a guest post by Public Service Commissioner Craig Greene, who represents District 2.

Louisiana is blessed with an abundance of natural gas. Natural gas not only drives our state’s economy, but it also plays a fundamental role in producing the electricity that lights our homes. We also know that increasing private investment in liquified natural gas (LNG) terminals creates an incentive for maintaining gas production across our state, which stabilizes our economy, preserves jobs, and ultimately mitigates the risk of supply shortages and price fluctuations in the energy market.

Despite nationwide outcries, the Biden administration paused LNG export licenses, crippling energy communities and putting jobs at risk. He continues to double down on his failed approach to energy policy. Biden’s EPA issued a Final 111(d) Rulemaking, which imposes burdensome requirements on new gas generation.

So what does this mean for you, the consumer? Biden seems determined to make it more expensive for you to benefit from Louisiana gas. This heavy-handed approach not only undermines affordability but also jeopardizes the reliability of our energy supply. At a time when energy experts are warning of the need for increased electricity capacity, these policies only serve to hinder investment in the energy sector.

The implications of these policies are stark: higher costs and compromised reliability. By artificially increasing the costs of new natural gas power plants, the administration is steering us toward a future of higher costs and greater uncertainty. This is not the future that Louisiana consumers deserve.

Join me in supporting an energy plan that supports private investment, preserves and increases private sector jobs, and produces affordable and reliable electricity. Louisiana natural gas checks all those boxes. President Biden’s plan checks none of them. We cannot afford to continue down the Biden path of escalating electricity costs and diminishing reliability.
