Editor’s Note: a statement put out by the Louisiana Freedom Caucus as a response to London Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley, who insinuated that his organization might seek arrest and extradition of online critics of the UK’s handling of civil unrest in that country.

Louisiana’s Freedom Caucus wishes to remind London’s Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley that no laws in the United Kingdom have been in effect or in force in the Continguous 48 United States since 1776.   

WHEREAS on the 4^th of July, 1776, the 13 British Colonies declared independence from England and thus began a journey to gain independence from the King of England and his then-tyrannical government.  After a 5+ year war, England surrendered to the colonies and thus, forever, lost any legal authority in what we now know as the United States; and

WHEREAS  in 1787, the colonies adopted a Constitution and framed the American government, specifying a number of inalienable rights, including,  prominently, Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Assembly; and

WHEREAS the rights of Americans have been inviolate since that time, though we readily acknowledge England’s failed attempt to retake the colonies, we respectfully remind the Commissioner how that fracas ended—with an enormous defeat of England’s Army at the Battle of New Orleans.  English casualties were high and the Royal Army was sent home without the treasure or property it craved; and

WHEREAS given the fact that English laws related to the infringement of free speech have no effect in the United States; and

WHEREAS The Constitution of the United States is the Supreme Law of the Land in America and in the great State of Louisiana; and

WHEREAS Louisiana has a duly elected Governor and Attorney General who treasure freedom and liberty and we believe these two great citizens would stand resolutely in your way if you tried to bother any of our citizens;  and

WHEREAS Louisiana has Constitutionally-minded sheriffs, police chiefs, and legally armed citizens in every nook, cranny, swamp, city, town, village, forest, river bank, and throughout our beloved Louisiana;

The Louisiana Freedom Caucus wishes to make sure Commissioner Rowley doesn’t think for one second he nor his newly fashioned tyranny have the right nor capability to detain, arrest, nor extradite any Louisianan, much less any American; and

BE IT RESOLVED we have great disdain for your threatened suppression of free speech, freedom of movement, and dissent and thus wish to recommend you manage your own affairs and stay away from the free people of your former colonies and other states who joined the Union after we expelled your Army in 1781 and 1815.
