I’m pleased that the Governor and the Legislature were able to come together and agree on a plan to reform Louisiana’s tax system. I’m hoping that spirit of productive cooperation can continue into the harder work yet ahead.
We are not finished reposturing our state for economic competitiveness with the roaring tigers to our west (Texas), north (Tennessee) and east (Florida). It will take the recognition of hard facts, and the acceptance of what must be done to alleviate them, before we will be ready to finish our work in the spring.
Namely, that Louisiana has a spending problem, and it’s crucial we address it head-on. The recent tax reform session has set the stage for economic growth through lower, flat tax rates and critical fiscal measures like paying down our state debt. Again, I’m very encouraged that broad majorities were found for those crucial changes.
While these reforms are promising, true success will only come when paired with stringent spending control. I’m encouraged by the Governor’s recent pledge of a standstill budget and the creation of a “Fiscal Responsibility Program”, inspired by innovative leaders like Elon Musk and policies from President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency. This LA DOGE initiative is about right-sizing state government and strategically investing in our future.
It must be done, and quickly. And it must be aggressive. Here’s hoping our leaders in the Executive Branch are willing to follow the governor’s lead.
As your Senator, I am committed to ensuring that every reform, every measure we implement serves to enhance the prosperity and efficiency of Louisiana. Come March 29th, your vote will help shape the final outcome of our state’s fiscal strategy. Let’s ensure Louisiana’s government is as efficient and effective as it can be. A government truly of, by, and for the people. Thank you for allowing me the privilege to serve you. God bless Louisiana!
