BAYHAM: Yes To Amendment 2; Vote Like A Conservative And Not Like A “Legend”

Is Louisiana serious about changing the way we literally “do business”?

Our state has been hemorrhaging people for decades due to insufficient economic opportunities and a comparative low quality of services, infrastructure, and wellness.

In 1990 Louisiana had 8 members of Congress; we now have 6 and will almost certainly be down to 5 come 2032. A smaller congressional delegation will lead to reduced influence- an erosion of that will make it harder to protect our interests, from battling coastal erosion to protecting the energy industry that helps offset the tax burden from our people and provides good paying jobs.

And while residents of this state occupy two of the highest offices in Congress, our time in the legislative catbird seats won’t last forever.

The four reform amendments overwhelmingly supported by our Republican legislators are being strongly opposed by outside forces including well-funded Soros-aligned front groups.

The Democrats, whose solution to everything is more taxes, are trying to give Governor Jeff Landry an “L” at the polls at the expense of a more prosperous Louisiana. The Democrats lost every major battle in the conservative legislature last year, leaving this fight as their only way to get a “w”.

Here are the facts.

Churches will not lose their tax-status if Amendment 2 passes. Considering that the legislation was carried by a woman who serves on a Baptist seminary board and that it was supported by fervent evangelicals in the legislature, that should be apparent.

The only scenario where the Louisiana Legislature would act to strip religious institutions of their tax-exempt status would be if the rapture swept the sincere Christians to their heavenly reward and the only people left to run the government were a coven of Mandie Landrys.

In that case the non-profit posture of churches would be of the least concern for those left behind.

Failure to adopt Amendment 2 will create an adverse state budget situation that will stymie other proposed tax cuts that would benefit working families in the coming sessions.

The defeat of Amendment 2 would be a near-fatal setback on our crusade to eliminate the state income tax in the foreseeable future, something our neighbors in Mississippi recently achieved.

You can stand with our Republican leadership who invested their entire 2024 into putting our state in a position to succeed or help leftist musician John Legend and a host of Democratic activists essentially wreck the signature piece of the Louisiana Republican fiscal reform agenda.

All in the name of making perfect the enemy of good. It really makes you wonder the true motivations of some.
