In a letter to his constituents, Rep. Clay Higgins confirmed that he’s going to run for re-election next year rather than challenge Bill Cassidy in the Louisiana GOP Senate primary…
My fellow Americans,
Serving my Country Congressionally was never something I had considered until the Lord illuminated the path. I have always, since a child, been blessed with a servant’s heart, and though I’ve faltered and failed and stood back up along the way, my faith in God has never wavered. Over the course of my life, I’ve come to clearly understand that when I obey the quiet whisper of the Lord deep within, my journey is fruitful and blessed, anointed of God.
So it is, I feel so humbled that, apparently, according to two Trafalgar Group statewide polls, the vast majority of Louisiana Republicans want me to be their Senator. For the past year, because so many Patriots privately encouraged me to seek the Senate seat surely to be strongly contested in 2026, I have calmly studied a potential transition of my Congressional service from the People’s House to the esteemed Senate. Now, it is my considered determination that, current engagement in the House being incredibly significant, it may be ultimately more beneficial to the Republic that I remain in service to the MAGA America First agenda as a senior Republican in the House of Representatives.
In the People’s House, I have earned the broad respect of my colleagues, have been elected to the House Freedom Caucus Board of Directors, have been elected as Chairman of the Oversight Committee S.C. on Federal Law Enforcement, serve as the most Senior Republican on the Homeland Security Committee, and solely represent Louisiana on the House Armed Services Committee. Further, my personal relationship with Speaker Mike Johnson, Leader Steve Scalise, many other Chairmen and Senators, countless members of the Trump administration, and President Trump himself, allow me to have a meaningful seat at virtually every table during this historically crucial time for the entire United States of America. I am literally in deep negotiations every day, fighting for the future of our Republic. Were I to transition my service to the Senate, although that transition seems, according to extensive review of Trafalgar polling, virtually assured, I would no doubt be forced to avert my focused attention from the battles I am currently engaged in, battles that require my very unique set of skills. These are battles that We must win, if We are to save our beloved Republic, and if We are to restore the foundational Christian and Constitutional core principles that founded our Nation.
So, fellow citizen, I shall continue to serve you in the People’s House. There are several American Patriots of distinguished accomplishment who will vie for the United States Senate seat currently held by Dr. Bill Cassidy, whose service to our Nation within the Senate seems to have soon reached conclusion. I have no lack of love for my fellow man, and Senator Cassidy is no exception to that fact. I respect the Senator, I thank him for his service, and I wish him well. A MAGA America First Republican candidate will emerge, my Brothers and Sisters, and that Louisiana Patriot Republican nominee will be held accountable to stand by their promise to We the People of Louisiana. I shall be watching, in this season, very, very closely.
By His grace, His blessings being upon us, His will be done.
With Higgins’ demurral, Cassidy’s sole major current challenger is State Treasurer John Fleming. However, it’s only a matter of time before state senator Blake Miguez will jump in, and a pair of other elected officials – U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow and Public Service Commissioner Eric Skrmetta – are also looking at the race.
The common word on the street was that if Higgins had gotten in, Miguez would have declared for Higgins’ House seat, which would likely have been an easy win for him. Now that Higgins is staying put in that seat we’ve got a good deal more clarity in a race which still doesn’t have much of it.
