Now that the Republicans are in charge of the Senate, there is a definitive change in how things are approached within its committee hearings. Yesterday at the Senate Judiciary Committee, we saw an excellent example.

The committee held a hearing on the “Censorship Industrial Complex,” which was aimed specifically at investigating the efforts by the Biden administration and its Deep State allies to police inconvenient online expressions about things like election integrity, COVID vaccines and lots of other issues on which Americans found themselves suddenly unable to opine in public fora.

The best witness to appear at the hearing was Mollie Hemingway, the editor-in-chief of TheFederalist.com. Hemingway’s opening speech to the committee was a terrific recitation of the problem Team Biden and their allies caused in warping the contours of our national discourse…

And later, at the end of the hearing, Hemingway and Sen. Josh Hawley had a really good back-and-forth about Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg and their role in participating in rigging the public’s access to certain points of view and controlling points of view.

But the worst witness was a law professor at George Washington University named Mary Anne Franks.

Franks is an outspoken feminist, a Krav Maga instructor who counsels women that they should become martial arts masters rather than carrying guns in their purses for protection, and she’s written books with titles like The Cult of the Constitution: Our Deadly Devotion to Guns and Free Speech and Fearless Speech: Breaking Free from the First Amendment. You might not be very surprised to hear that Mary Anne Franks is a snarling leftist who commonly says utterly bizarre things.

And when John Kennedy got hold of her during that hearing, it became a classic moment. You’ve probably seen Kennedy take apart leftist weirdos called in front of that committee for various hearings before, but this was one of his more complete performances.
