If you hear soon that the Department of Justice is opening an investigation into the trillion-dollar “infrastructure” spending spree that Joe Biden put failed former New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu in charge of, we can’t take credit for that.
And honestly, we don’t know that it’ll even happen.
But it ought to, because if you’ll remember back in 2021 after Biden and his Democrat majorities forced through a massive infrastructure package, Landrieu was named as the infrastructure czar to a tumultuous bit of praise from the legacy Propaganda Press. Forget about the fact that Mitch Landrieu was just about the worst possible hire for that job given what he’d done for infrastructure as mayor of New Orleans (built a billion-dollar airport with no direct interstate access; the flyover ramps from I-10 didn’t appear until well into LaToya Cantrell’s second term, and that’s the highlight of his mayorship). Landrieu wasn’t brought in to that job because there was any expectation he’d be good at it.
That isn’t how Democrat politics works. It hasn’t been for a long time.
Mitch Landrieu was given the job as Biden’s infrastructure czar because Mitch Landrieu is willing to do what nobody else is willing to do. And there was so much graft, sleaze and criminal government waste in Biden’s infrastructure package that he needed a committed kleptocrat for the job of doling all of it out.
Landrieu’s political career in Louisiana is finished. Other than a few abject idiots in the Propaganda Press who want to try to make him a viable presidential contender (it does seem unbelievable, I know, but there are some of these people out there, and is he really any less plausible than Pete Buttigieg?), he has no possibility of getting elected to anything outside of the city of New Orleans. That was known back in 2021 when he took the job as ringleader of the infrastructure Corrupt-a-thon. So Mitch Landrieu could be dictated to waste that money on political favors for Democrat crooks all over the country with the knowledge that his response to even the worst of the graft and corruption would be “Yassuh, boss.”
And the bill was, in fact, written expressly to permit widespread fraud, waste and abuse. No independent oversight of the spending was built in. That’s why the bill spent billions and billions of dollars on electric-vehicle charging stations and put up less than 10 of them across the country. That’s why it spent hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars on rural broadband that never managed to get built. On Trump’s first day back in office in January he ordered a pause on what was left unspent in Biden and Landrieu’s infrastructure bill; they couldn’t even shovel all that money out of the Treasury in four years, which is a small mercy given the scale of the disaster Landrieu inflicted on the country. Only about $162 billion of that $1.21 trillion has actually been spent so far, and naturally the state of U.S. infrastructure is worse off now than it was in 2021.
Awesome job, Mitch.
We’re bringing this up because Landrieu has put himself back on the radar, and that ought to be a pretty decent-sized problem for him. We’re talking about this…
Former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said Friday on MSNBC’s “Deadline” that President Donald Trump is a “traitor to this country.”
Landrieu said, “I’m very disappointed in the business leadership of America. Do you really want to live in the kind of country where business leaders who are billionaires are afraid to speak because they’re afraid of a political leader? I mean, what the hell is going on in this country?”
He continued, “I think that maybe people did not think, contrary to being warned many times, that Donald Trump was going to destroy democracy, that he was going to seek retribution, that he was going to take people’s fundamental rights away. But as I said, Donald Trump is much better today at being bad than he was four years ago. And at some point, if we want to save our country and this democracy which is at threat right now, the ability to suck up to Putin and the willingness to really punish Mexico and Canada, two of our closest allies, is the surest signal in the world that our country has lost its way.”
Landrieu added, “Donald Trump is a traitor to this country. Donald Trump is really sucking up to dictators across the world. He is taking us down a path that is not good for the country.”
Wait, what?
“Contrary to being warned many times” he says. That Trump is going to “destroy democracy.”
Mitch Landrieu went from being Biden’s infrastructure czar, if you’ll remember, to being named the chair of Biden’s 2024 re-election campaign in January of 2024.
Mitch Landrieu was responsible for representing to the public that Joe Biden had the mental competence to run the country until January of 2029.
When Mitch Landrieu and everybody else in Biden’s inner circle knew that Joe Biden was non compos mentis and couldn’t even sign presidential orders. They were using his autopen without so much as his knowledge, as we found out when House Speaker Mike Johnson confronted Biden in a head-to-head meeting over Biden’s LNG export ban.
He straight-up lied to the American people for six months about whether the sitting elected (to be generous, given the anomalies and irregularities of the 2020 election) president of the United States was actually running the country, until his own party realized that gag wouldn’t sell and threw Biden over for the semi compos mentis vice president Kamala Harris. Landrieu even lied to the American people about Biden’s capability to run the country for a second term when he knew he wasn’t even running the country during his first term.
And Mitch Landrieu wants to accuse Trump of destroying democracy?
Really?
We’ve come to expect nothing but bald-faced lies from Democrats like this guy. Tell the truth as a Democrat and they chase you off like they did to Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
But even by that standard, this is amazingly rich.
And it really shouldn’t go without consequences.
That trillion-dollar crime spree Mitch Landrieu “oversaw” needs a full and complete DOGE audit. Every line item of spending needs to be scrutinized. It should be made into a case study for government waste, fraud and abuse and the people responsible for pissing away that money should be indicted and prosecuted for malfeasance in office.
To include Mitch Landrieu.
And if he wants to complain that this is Trump “seeking retribution,” then so be it. We can ask around and see if anybody really cares about Mitch Landrieu’s problems. More likely you’ll find a lot of people who would note that Landrieu’s white-hot attacks on Trump smack of somebody who regrets that Biden’s autopen didn’t issue him a pardon on Biden’s way out the door.
