There’s been a lot talk recently in the State Capitol—and here on The Hayride—about carbon capture sequestration (or “CCS” for short). In fact, many grassroots, “Louisiana First” patriots have shown up to the House Natural Resources and Environment Committee to support a bevy of bills that protect the sovereignty and property of Louisiana residents from the globalist corporations pushing for CCS in our state.
To the chagrin of many patriots, the Louisiana House Natural Resources and Environment Committee is not a particularly strong one in terms of its membership. Several squeamish Republican legislators have teamed up with their Democratic colleagues on this committee to kill common-sense legislation that would protect Louisiana citizens from these globalist interests.
The sad reality is that the huge swath of pro-CCS corporate lobbyists are influencing this committee–to the detriment of the numerous Louisiana residents and local officials who have voiced opposition to expanding carbon capture in rural parts of the state. Just look at some of the corporate giants opposing some of the best legislation when it comes to protecting rights of “We the People.”
The following businesses and groups filed cards in opposition Rep. Owen’s HB 4 during a committee meeting last month: Exxon, Entergy, LABI, Baton Rouge Area Chamber of Commerce, Royal Road Carbon, GNO Inc, Capture Point LLC, and many more. Similarly, organizations like LABI, Cleco, and the Louisiana Oil & Gas Association also opposed Rep. Geymann’s bill (HB 601), which would restrict the use of eminent domain for CCS projects.
We the People elected legislators who proposed this legislation to protect our rights from shady corporations. Let’s hope that the Louisiana Legislature finally starts listening to the valid concerns that Louisiana citizens have about carbon capture.
For any legislators who are fine with shilling for corporate interests over the concerns over your constituents—just ask the people of Satartia, Mississippi, what they think of carbon capture. Ask the residents who lived in that area near that exploded carbon dioxide pipeline in Mississippi during 2020 if carbon capture improved their lives.
Special interests have dominated the State Capitol for many years. Let’s finally give a win to the people of Louisiana over corporate interests when it comes to carbon capture.
