Yesterday’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling affirming the right of states to restrict irreversible experimentation on minors is a major victory for children, parents, and truth. The Louisiana Freedom Caucus applauds this decision as a bold affirmation of a core belief: children deserve protection, not experimentation.
Let’s be clear, these are life-altering procedures being performed on children who are not old enough to vote or drive. They can’t even get a tattoo without parental consent, yet some would have us believe they are capable of choosing permanent surgeries and hormone treatments based on passing feelings. That’s not compassion—it’s recklessness.
The Supreme Court’s ruling is a powerful reminder that states have not only the right but the duty to stand between vulnerable children and the cultural forces pushing dangerous ideologies as medicine. Science, not politics, must guide healthcare. When it comes to children, we must prioritize caution over activism.
This decision is a clear win for parental rights, a cause the Louisiana Freedom Caucus has championed from the start. Parents—not bureaucrats, activists, or social media influencers—know their children best. And parents deserve the legal backing to protect their sons and daughters from irreversible harm.
In Louisiana, we will continue to advocate for policies that safeguard children, honor families, and restore biological truth as a foundation of public policy. Today’s ruling is a turning point, but our work is far from over.
Let the message be clear: Louisiana’s children are not political pawns. They are our future and they deserve unwavering protection.
State Representative Beryl Amedée (R-Gray) serves as Chairwoman of the Louisiana Freedom Caucus.
