Jeff Landry has now been governor of Louisiana for about 18 months. For as long as most of us can remember, Louisiana has lingered near the bottom of national rankings, often landing 49th or 50th. That record has left voters with a deeply negative view of politics and politicians. Too often promises were made but not kept, and real progress felt out of reach.
This moment feels different.
For the first time in modern history, Louisiana has a truly conservative government. Governor Landry, together with a conservative-controlled House and Senate, represents the first genuine conservative governing majority the state has seen. Before 2024, Republicans had held all three — the House, the Senate, and the Governor’s Mansion — for only three years since Reconstruction.
In these 18 months, far more has happened than most people realize. The media has been largely silent, yet the reforms have been both massive and historic. That silence is why Senate President Cameron Henry and House Speaker Phillip DeVillier decided to set the record straight. Working with the House and Senate Republican Delegations, they have launched a six-figure statewide media effort, anchored by a new video and supported by radio and digital advertising, to make sure voters hear the full story.
In just over a year, the legislature has enacted 51 insurance reform bills, lowered the personal income tax to 3 percent, and reduced the corporate income tax to 5.5 percent. They eliminated the franchise tax and cut the severance tax on oil from 12.5 percent to 6.5 percent. Lawmakers also addressed legacy lawsuits, overhauled the Department of Transportation, and paid down pension debt. At the same time, they invested in higher education and infrastructure. Louisiana’s education ranking has already climbed from 49th to 32nd.
The state’s business climate has improved more than any other in the nation, attracting over 60 billion dollars in new private investment. And reforms in the criminal justice system are finally holding violent offenders accountable.
This is what conservative leadership looks like, and it is changing the trajectory of Louisiana. It is about time conservative voters knew it.
